Average? Not clear.

What's possible, on this board? You can get close to what you want, AND well cut, surprisingly.

But, you have to pick either D or .9; seems like you can't get both.

See here:

(after the screen comes up, you seem to also have to hit: "search all").

Best,

I would say that depends on what kind of diamond you want. If you want an ideal cut stone, then I would say yes, a 1ct D/SI1 is out of the question. You should do a search here on PS with the specs of your choice to get an idea of what online prices are like. Expect the B&M prices to be higher...especially if you go to a name brand place like Cartier or Tiffany's, etc. Good luck!

I looked around a bit and I think an G/H/I SI is more realistic

a top cut H&A AGS/GIA stone would be more like $11k in today's market.

If you want ideal light perfomance, yes. Even an F SI1 at one carat is way out of budget, let alone a D: http://highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-infinity&id=821

But... if you want to take chance... here's an ideal cut E 1ct for under 6K http://highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-infinity&id=638 Infinity is the only cutter I know that consistently cuts eyeclean I clarity diamonds that are 'safe' so it might be worth the call to see if this is one of them.

If you want an ideal cut with lots of fire and brilliance, then yes. In my opinion, to drop down in cut you are sacrificing the sparkle- maybe look around the .9 mark or look to drop color to the near colorless range if you want to keep it at the one carat mark
