Today is Day 1 of a 60 day challenge that I decided to commit to at the Bikram yoga studio that I go to. We have to complete 60 classes in 10 weeks. In addition to completing the classes, each person decides to either eliminate a negative aspect of their life or add a positive. Some studio friends are eliminating sugar or alcohol or snacks or online shopping. I decided to eliminate the nagging/criticizing towards my DH at home. I find myself nagging when I am tired and it really doesn't do anybody any good. My DH is a good sport and doesn't take it personally, but I thought I would try to make a conscious effort to eliminate the "mean" Tigian and replace her with a "nicer" one. I think it will be more challenging than getting my butt to the studio 60 days in a row. I'm very excited about how the next 2 months are going to go. You get one "cheat" day per week. Anybody want to join me? I thought some of my PSers may want the challenge!

I'm actually in the midst of a 40 day challenge at my CrossFit gym, so count me in! :cheeky: My challenge involves eating Paleo, so no processed foods, dairy or gluten, and lots of protein and veggies.

Plus as a personal challenge to myself, I'm trying to go to the gym almost every single day. If I finish up this week having gone every day, I decided that I get to buy myself a new pair of Lululemon pants. (I need some extra motivation to drop that much $ on workout clothes!)

to become a conservative?... never too late..

yay, thing! Thanks for joining me! Lululemon clothes are expensive, but worth it. I just got the run in the sun crop pants and they are super cute with the ruching. I'm not sure what you weat to crossfit or if you already have pants in mind. Are you doing Paleo with or without fruit?
Day 2 done for the yoga part, wish me luck on not being a mean bean for the rest of the day. :Up_to_something:

I'm in! I am commiting to working out on my days off/8 hour days (about 4 days X week), only having one sweet treat per day and working on my deep breathing and journeling every day to manage my stress.

Good luck on not being a mean bean! (Love that phrase, BTW!)

I have a pair of the wonder under crops and they're great...I think the next pair I'll get is the longer shorts in black. I love the grey color in the wonder unders but I don't want to be walking home from the gym with sweat marks on my butt! :cheeky:

Awesome, Mrsacornblue! Welcome aboard! Wow! You want to add a bunch of goals for the 60 days! What does your workout consist of, out of curiosity? What is your favorite sweet treat? I just treated myself to a starbucks latte this afternoon. I try to limit my coffee consumption to a few times a week. I notice when I drink more coffee, I crave more sweets. But, that's just me. :wink2:

tigian - I just subscribed back to yoga today online, so I would LOVE to join!!!! I will start tonight. As for my negative, I think for me it would be my temper. I think doing yoga and practicing a yoga lifestyle will help with this. I tend to be defensive and argumentative, and I would like to take it down a few notches.

How did it go yesterday, dragonfly?
For me, I find that the only person I direct my criticism is towards my DH. I have to remind myself that when I criticize, it usually is a sign that I'm not happy with myself at the moment. When do you find yourself argumentative? Is it towards everyone or a particular person? Sometimes I find certain people have a way of wording things, so you can't help but feel defensive.
How long have you been practicing yoga?
I'm so happy you are joining the small posse of 60 day challengers!

DF, I did yoga for a couple months this winter before realizing it was making my ab muscle separation worse..but when I was doing it, I LOOOOOOVED it. I'm dying to get my muscles fixed so I can get back at it full stop. I felt it made a big difference in how I felt as far as anger etc.

Tigian - I did a very relaxed practice, focusing mostly on breathing and stretching my back. I haven't lost my temper any ;)) . Tonight I'm planning to do a practice that gets the heart pumping and really worked my legs when I did it on Tuesday. It's an hour long practice with my favorite instructor. How has your practice been? I am also trying to alter my diet to make me feel better. I am reading a book on Chinese medicine, and the symptoms for Yang deficiency and for Damp/Cold define me 100%. I am altering my diet to fit those needs. I'll be having lots of beans, complex carb grains like oats, barley, quinoa etc., cooked vegetables, soups, warm tea, light meats such as chicken and fish cooked, eggs, nuts, and only certain fruits. The recommendations are to avoid raw foods, and cold foods and drinks, and eat limited amounts of citrus and dairy and tomatoes. I am supposed to have enlivening spices such as chili powder, chai, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. I'm hoping it will rid me of my constant feelings of being cold, achy, and run down.

Packrat, could you practice yoga that is more focused on other parts of your body? For instance, upper body moves, leg moves, moves that keep you lying down/sitting? Some poses I can think of are mountain, chair, tree, child, down dog? The easier more relaxed moves?

Yeah, I need to do some research into what exactly can and can't be done. What I've found is no twisting, no bending over, no bending backwards, limit being on your stomach. So..mountain, tree, goddess I can do. I tried putting in a disc and then fast forwarding to ones I could do..and found I pretty much was standing there w/a remote in my hand, waiting, so I just quit. I wish there were a specialized dvd to follow along to..yoga for diastasis. Hm..now that I think about it, I wonder about prenatal yoga dvd's..I bet some of that stuff you can't do when you're pregnant, maybe something like that would work.

Dragonfly, it sounds like you are making some really great changes in your diet. Which book are you reading? I'm actually an acupuncturist and herbalist and see a lot of yang def, damp/cold conditions. I know when I am tired, that is when I find myself being the most critical/negative. I'm sure once you start to feel less run down, you will find yourself being less argumentative. But so far, so good for both of us! Week 1 almost done. 5 more weeks to go! :appl: :appl: :appl:
