I am starting to think about bigger studs but I am curious if 6 prong or martini''s make a stone look bigger?
3.gif
I do know bezels make studs look bigger too but right now I am curious about martini''s vs, 6 prong. I did look at some martini''s versus 4 prong and the martini''s looked bigger and seemed to let more light in. Thanks for your thoughts.

Skippy - how exciting! I just got my new studs (1.06 ctw), and I went with the 3-prong martini. I think it depends on the size of the stones you''re getting, six prongs would cover more surface area of diamond (this would be especially troublesome with smaller stud sizes), thus not allowing the diamond to truly shine. I have a preference for more minimalist prongs myself, so I didn''t consider the six prong. Although, if you''re a prong-lover, then maybe the six prongs are for you. What size are you considering upgrading to?

ops I should have mentioned I have martini's right now and really like them a lot. I guess since I am upgrading I want to go for a setting that I won't want to change later but I completely agree martinis are great. I just happened to be at Costco today and notice the studs they were selling were in the 6 prong and they looked big but they didn't have the martini's so I really couldn't compare. Mine right now are I think .80 ctw so I would want to go over 1 ctw or more.

Congrats on your new Studs, off to look for your thread jills! thanks for your thoughts.

Put me in the minimalist camp too. I''d stick with the

As to which would/could make them look bigger, I really don''t know Skipper''s.

Another vote here for the Martini setting. I think 6 prongs takes away from the diamond, more metal you will see... I want to see more diamond and less metal... I gave my Martini studs to Ash, they look pretty darn big on her.. She wears them all the time... I kinda miss them.. LOL!!!

Skippy - as an FYI...when I exchanged the first pair of studs I had (0.82ctw) for the 1.06ctw, I noticed a visible difference. Something about that extra .4mm was just enough to make the new earring "pop" just a little more than the old ones. Both pairs were beautiful, but I''m really happy with the 1.06ers. I *really* wanted 1.2ctw, but just couldn''t talk hubby into the price increase! Although I did make sure I could upgrade down the line...maybe as push present for kiddo #2?

I love the look of 6 prong and find that the prongs make the diamond appear more round and slightly larger. I had cz''s set in martini before committing to those for my studs but I really wanted my earrings and my e-ring to match. I bought 6 prong settings from betterthanadiamond.com and had my local jeweler set my studs into them. For me, the six prong is perfect and I never worry about which way they''re pointing in my ears :)

What size of stones are you considering?

That will impact my humble opinion!!!
9.gif

I think it depends on the prong shape and thickness. When the prongs are fluted, I think 6-prong style makes the diamonds look bigger.

That is so exciting Skippy!! I just got martinis and think they are amazing!! I personally wouldn''t want 6 prongs for earrings, unless they were oh, 2 carats each! haha

I personally like the three because it is ALL diamond!!

Makemepretty, You know that is a very good point about the way the prongs are pointing; I always notice when I am in the car I try to make them match so the points aren't off

Yes suchende, I saw those 6 prongs today compared to the 4 prong and they looked BIG. I also saw some 4 prongs yesterday compared to the martini's and the martini's look Big! Thanks for your thoughts

Hi October, I love your new studs

I keep staring at yours and Lynnb's threads!!!

Thanks for your input, you make a good point and I know I can't have 2 carats each. hehe I love how the martini's let so much light in so the studs look ablaze, super cool!!!!

Thanks for all your thoughts friends

I quickly took some snaps of my 6 prongs, forgive the bad pictures, I just wanted to show you how they look. In one picture there seems to be a black spot but it''s just a reflection because I actually used the same earring in both ears trying to decide which ear lobe was less freckle-y. Plus my e-ring so you can see how they match. The studs are 2ct total(1ct each ear)

mmpear16prong.jpg

2nd pic, same earring just different ear because I was seeing which ear was better for pics then decided who cares

mmpear26prong.jpg

And my ering, 2 ct 6 prong with 2 ct band. It''s nice having everything match. Sorry about picture quality again, just wanted to quickly help out with a visual so it took seriously 2 sec. to upload these to give you an idea.

The prongs don''t take way from them in my opinion and they still sparkle like mad, letting in enough light. They''re white gold, I have tan/gold walls in my dining area where I used the mirror so it''s reflecting off the settings and earring in the second picture. I love the look of 6 prong baskets but had a hard time finding them anywhere because 4 prong and martini are more popular choices now.
