6 carats of Blue Sapphires - is setting too “cheap”?

72796A07-0C40-431B-99D1-1F509450C706.jpeg Hi all,
I have the 2 x 3 carat sapphires which I decided not to split. I thought a pair of earrings would be the best option.
I looked at some very nice and expensive (like $5,000) earring settings but thought I’d spread my dollars a bit further so as to set a few other gems as well.
I’ve just received these earring mounts. The sapphires are a tad over 9mm so they don’t just “drop in” but I’m thinking now that these earring mounts are looking a bit “cheap and insubstantial” for these 2 rather lovely sapphires.
I sort of chose these wee diamond set mounts so as not to “distract and compete”” with the beautiful sapphires but now having the mounts I’m thinking they sapphires are being “let down” by the too modest setting.
Should I start again with my earring mount choice and go bigger and better diamonds?
Thanks.

I'd say go for bigger diamonds. Sapphires can hold their own against diamonds. The saturated color will anchor the eye. :geek2:

9769D968-2F40-44D8-9088-CECE965B28C8.jpeg These are two others I have in mind. The stud pair currently has synthetics set which I’d remove and replace with the sapphires ($1,000 US plus setting , shipping plus taxes), the others are white gold dangles (the style I prefer) $1,200 plus setting, shipping and taxes).
So like $2,000 plus Australia $$ A699467A-C146-48A2-82FE-3F1BEBAA35F1.jpeg either style. Sigh.

I prefer the dangles, too.

I agree with platinum or white gold. But based on prior posts, your taste is better than mine!

I don't think the yellow gold settings look cheap, per se -- I just think they don't show the stones to best advantage. Not sure if there are other parts to the suite that you're trying to match, etc., though.

I also worry that the round geometry "fights" the oval sapphires, to my eye.

I agree on dangles.

What a fun problem to have!

I think the diamond size is perfect, but it's just that they are spread too far apart in your mounts. I wish I had your problems!

The finish on the mounts is actually very nice for such cheap earrings, under $300.

I actually like these mounts, are they rose gold? But I agree that they don’t feel right for the sapphires. Do you have other pairs you can put in them?

I like this combo a lot! I think the stones and settings look great together. Since you already have the earring mounts, you could always have the stones set in them and switch them out to new settings in the future if you find something you like better.

The more I look at them the more I like your original settings. They’re not cheap. Just not a traditional look.

And honestly I’m not sure even the jewelryhoo settings would do three carat sapphires justice. So I’d set them and then keep looking/dreaming until you find the perfect setting.

I like the original settings, I don’t think they look cheap and I think they make the sapphire’s the stars!

I actually really like these and don’t think they look cheap! It might be worth it to just have them set so you can wear those fabulous sapphires!
