I need some help, I've been reading over this site for the past few weeks and have come to the point where I'm ready to purchase but want some advice. Basically Im looking for a RB stone around the 1.3ct size with a budget of $5600 US max. What do people suggest ?

Can anyone suggest anything that suits what Im looking for with the best cut possible ?

Edit:
Thanks for the advice so far people, I had stuffed the conversion from AUD to USD so my budget is actually $5600 which is for the stone only as I don't require a ring. My partner has been looking at rings and has decided she wants something 1.30ct's or bigger (personally I can't tell the difference in size between a 1.1ct and a 1.4ct but thats just me!). I'll use the pricescope search by cut option and see what it throws up.

First suggestion: contact Blue Nile about that stone and request the Sarin info. They should be able to provide this. When you get it, you can post crown/pavilion angles, girdle info, etc. for more feedback.

You can run a search by cut quality at www.pricescope.com/sift.asp. That turned up a 1.28 I SI2 for $5254 that is in GoodOldGold's virtual inventory. That means they don't have it in-house but can bring it in for you.

I also found this 1.27 J SI1 which is listed at $5447 with the PriceScope discount, slightly outside your price range. But it is a branded H&A cut, and has a fantastic IdealScope image. You might want to confirm it's eye clean.

Hope that helps!

Another one that I'd definitely consider...

1.36 K SI1 branded H&A with awesome BrillianceScope and I'Scope images for $5125!

Sydneyside,

Ordinarily I have something to add, but this time I don't..."quaeritur" said it, even adding an HCA analyzed option outside from what Pricescope analyzes for you. Sounds like some good advice. But, do do the analysis of options by cut quality, just as quaeritur suggests, so you see for yourself. For example, obviously, if the number of $5300 needs to include ring and/or tax, you'll need to adjust accordingly, and you'll be able to play with the variables yourself.

Best wishes,

You can search by cut quality here on PriceScope. All of these stones have the information you need to plug them into the HCA (in fact, their scores are already calculated for you).

well after spending countless hours comparing cuts, prices et al, I have finally gone with quaeritur's suggestion above, a 1.36ct SUPERBcert H&A which ended up being well within my budget and best of all the service and response I got was amazing (especially considering its 11:30am here in Sydney, AUS but it is 9:30PM in New York and I still managed to get replies to my emails within 30seconds, best of all the information on superbcert's site really impressed me. I was able to see exactly what the stone's inclusions looked like, what the IdealScope image was as well as get all the proportions I needed to get a HCA score myself.
All I can say is why would other sites NOT offer this level of service! I made enquiries to WhiteFlash and gave up after 3 days without a response (and still waiting) and others told me it would be a day or two wait before I could get sarin details and even then if I wanted digital photos taken I would have to pay for the shipping between the wholesaler and their premises so they could photograph it!!

Once again thanks quaeritur for the recommendation!!

You're very welcome!!! I'm so glad this worked out for you

. I agree that SuperbCert has an excellent website with great information, I hope to see other vendors match or even exceed the amount of info provided. GoodOldGold is another vendor here that also has everything you could possibly want about their in-house stones on their site. I love that, because it saves so much time in the search!

Now please, please do post pictures when you get the stone. I bet it will be stunning!!!

Congrats sydneyside! Be sure to post pictures when you get it! I also have a SuperbCert stone and I love it. Barry is VERY prompt with his e-mails...I don't think he sleeps.

Okay finally got around to getting some pictures of the ring which my fiance is absolutely wrapt with (she nearly crashed the car twice cause she was staring at the ring sparkling in the sun!). Very happy with the end result and even more so when I had the ring independantly assessed here in sydney and the assessor came back telling me it was a 1.37ct VS2 G color, which is a little strange considering its an SI1/K....oh well makes my valuation report look much better. Has anyone else ever had this happen where their stone has been evaluated as something different to the certificate ? I know GIA are tough in their evaluations but how can their be a discrepancy in the color as I thought this was measured electronically ?

Wow! That turned out awesome!!! I love how substantive yet feminine that setting is.

It's possible for the stone to be appraised better once it's set. Without the stone loose, measurements are less accurate... if the inclusions are hidden by prongs, for example. In your case, it worked out for the best

. Fluorescence in a stone can also cause the color grade to come back better than the cert.

Congratulations on a beautiful diamond, and a gorgeous ring. I'm so happy your fiancee loves it too!
