I assume this is a misprint. His other similar stones. some larger or better color, are priced within the $5,000 range. Maybe he added two extra zeros by mistake.

P.S. Just checked. It is a misprint. Under the link to the description, the price is $5200. I emailed the seller about the mistake when I read about it on Pricescope this morning. However it was a 10 day listing with a little over a day to go.It is surprising that he did not either check his listngs himself or have someone call it to his attention before this.
I wonder what ebay's policy is on such a serious error and what the ebay fees will be. If he has someone doing his listings for him, I assume a head will roll.

I'm sure that cost him quite a listing fee!

I wrote the seller a note about the typo. It is a big one...

The dollar value of this stone at $5200 is quite competitive, but at $520,000, not such a great deal.

Oops! Better retract my bid for $530,000!

Actually it was a marketing "gimmick". I emailed Carat King, the ebay seller, and he said this was a way of "getting a lot of people to look at it compared to a normal listing."
I guess it brought a number of people to his site who might otherwise not have gone there and I suppose it works for him or he would not have done it. I wonder how ebay handles the listing fee.

IT'S A PUBLICITY STUNT!

read my email conversation with "caratking"....

The listing is strictly for publicity, I do not expect anyone would bid on such an item. I'm not crazy, just getting my advertising dollars to work as well as possible (you looked right).

Dear caratking,

You have got to be joking, where do you get off trying to sell a 1 carat diamond for half a million dollars. You are one crazy man.
