Hey everyone. I'm I process of putting together an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I wanted some opinions on ring coverage and size.

I'm looking at a Leon mege 5 stone ring. Antique cushion, half moon sides, and bullets. The center stone is going to be around 1.5ish ct. My basic question, is this likely to have to much coverage on a 4.5 size finger? I want to make sure that the bullets arent going to be wrapping around the sides to much and touching her other fingers and create a discomfort!? If anyone has relevant pictures on a hand of something remotely similar it would be a fantastic help

Here's what I was looking at:

Beautiful design! I think it will be blingy and attention-grabbing, but in an elegant and tasteful way - not ostentatious simply for the sake of being ostentatious, if that's what you mean ::)

You are planning to work with one of a handful of designers who has mastered proportionality and whose opinion is IMO worth just as much as his execution. I strongly advise asking what he recommends - the same set of stones configured in slightly different ways can drastically alter both aesthetic and fit, and he'll likely have some suggestions.

Old pic of my fivestone - 2.7center, 0.43sides, 0.12ends, finger size 4. Sidestones set higher and angled such that there's no rubbing against adjacent fingers.

That's going to be fine. I am finger size 4.5, have a 7mm cushion with .75ish halfmoons on each side, and you can still see plenty of the pave band.

And closer so you can actually distinguish between the half-moons and the band, though it's not on my finger straight lol.

And my ring is certainly no Leon Mege... I agree with Yssie that he's a master of proportions and will definitely be able to get it right.

Size 4.5 refers to the width of your girlfriend's finger, not the length.

I would not want a ring as large as you are proposing to buy and my finger width is larger at around size 5.25. However, my ring finger doesn't even reach 2 1/2 inches long...

If your girlfriend has long, willowy fingers, I'm sure it will look amazing but if she is very petite, you may want to consider smaller diamonds so it doesn't overwhelm her finger.

Oh, I have a 1.5ct radiant cut on my size 5 finger and its totally fine. I have it haloed and pave on the shoulders so there would be plenty of room for side stones. My finger is also short (smaller than 3 inches for sure) and I wear it with a wedding bad and an eternity and there is no problem. I think a 1.5 is perfectly in proportion to a size 4.5-5 finger!

Great choice in ring, by the way. It's going to be beautiful!!

Oh, no worries about the size! A 1.5 ct cushion is not going to appear too big, and it is clear from that first picture that Leon used tiny bullets and proportioned the side stones to the ring size. That is one of my favorite setting designs for an antique cushion! It is elegant and timeless in design. You have great taste!!! :appl:

See, even on this ring with a huge center stone, he wraps the side stones around the side of the band. They aren't just sticking out all on the same plane.

P.S. Your #2 link doesn't look like bullets on the end to me, so definitely use #1 to reference with your order.

Perfect pictures and advise exactly what I was looking for! Perry Chen said 4.5 is the smallest they usually make that ring, so that's why I wanted some pics!

Yssie you even have the second ring I was considering buying lol!

In relation to my links, version 1 had step cut bullets. Link 2 had brilliant cut bullets. I haven't decided which to choose yet. They both look great and when I first saw them I liked the brilliant. But the step cuts are growing on me fast, feels like it ads an element of contrast and stone separation.
I was also highly considering adding a 3 row micro pave to the band. My gf loves "sparkly". And fine ring work equally as much as the center stone.

Thoughts?

I really like the contrast of the step cut bullets. It's easier to see the separation between the stones. It's also a classic look. I would opt for no micropave though. I think this ring has enough going on without it and on a smaller finger too many elements could look like too much. She can always get a micropave band as a wedding ring!

I agree with your thought that there's enough going on! It's also not recommended to put pave in an ultrasonic cleaner - and boy it's fun to keep ones ring really clean!

Wow really no micro pave? Is that everyones consensus? I was strongly considered either that or a Brightcut pave on all three sides of band with Milligrain for the classic look.

I can see your point, but I know she really loved bands with pave on them

I would do pave OR bullets but not both. I think the transition from brilliant cuts to step cuts works in this ring, but the transition back to brilliants would be too much. As well, I wouldn't want three-row micropave anywhere on the palm side of the ring, because that would take the ring from fairly sturdy to extremely delicate. (Plus, if you have the five stone ring, THEN pave, the pave will be totally unnoticeable because it won't even start until the sides of her fingers.) I'd just do a three-row pave wedding band. (Well, and my vote is for the three-sided brightcut... that's what I have and love love love the look. But for this set I'd just do it for the wedding band and not the engagement ring.)

no pave.

No pave. Don't guild the lilly.

She can wear a pave band if as a wedding band if she wants more bling.

Pricescope has spoken lol! No pave it is

More good news... Yssie's stones are all J's and you can get SI1 stones that are eyeclean for that. So that is very budget friendly.

Rhe most important thing to note is rhose are all super ideal hearts and arrows stones that are lab graded by AGG for ideal (0) light return And you can see the perfect arrows in that shot.

I believe Yssie brought her diamonds at Whiteflash while Brian Gavin was there so I would recommend stones from Brian Gavin Diamonds. But there are other vendors that would have comparable stones. We can help you with that. Finally that setting is very custom and handforged. It will run up to 3k just for the setting not includug the sidestones.

If that is the only pic your lady saw maybe you can do a three stone to save money.

Give us a budget and we can help you.

Once Leon picks the stones, he can lay them out and show you how they will look. I just had a three stone made and I am a 4.25-but it is emerald cut center and traps-there is a tiny amount on each side left, but not much- So it really depends on the dimensions of the stones you choose . I wouldn't want the stones to touch the fingers on either side personally-it would not be comfortable for me. Good luck-it will be gorgeous!

also-If she liked the look of pave but you decide not to do it, you could also do a hand engraved shank instead. Looks very delicate but since there aren't any stones, it isn't. That is what I did on mine.
