I went to Tiffany & Co the other day to get an idea of what me and my better half like for an e-ring. We liked the solitaire with diamond band (channel). A 1ct stone in said setting is $14000. That''s too much even for the Caddy of e-rings. It''s nice, but spending 2 extra weeks on a honeymoon is better even if it takes away the bragging rights.

Does anyone have a suggestion on where I can look for a comparable ring that includes a fair price? I really would prefer a stone that was not I in color, I think I can do better than that. Frankly, I would prefer a larger stone, maybe around 1.25ct. I just don''t know who to go to for the same quality and look as what we saw at Tiffany.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Whiteflash, James Allen, Signed Pieces, GoodOldGold all leap to mind. This ring is not difficult to make. A 1 ct. diamond that is exceptionally cut can run anywhere from 4500 to 8,000 depending on cut and clarity and color. Notice I said cut first. It''s the most important C. If I were choosing, I would call WF and see what they could do. You would get the caddy of rings(IMO) without that kind of pricetag.

How about this combo from Excel:
1.32 ct H Si1 Super Ideal $8200
http://www.exceldiamonds.com/diamond/17326.html

with their Tiffany channel set replica in Platinum for $2325
981_large.jpg

For a grand total of $10,525. That''ll be a bit of extra honeymoon for you!

The link Indie posted is awesome. I have bought a stone from exceldiamonds.com before. You would not be disappointed. They're branded Super Ideal. You would get a lot more for your money (great quality! check out some of the SuperbCert stones on this site) than at Tiffany's.

Here''s a pretty channel set ring at $1200 in platinnum: http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/Pave-Engagement-Ring_970.htm#
This isn''t channel set but it''s comparable and very pretty: http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/Diamonds-for-an-Eternity_998.htm

Hope that helps!

Look elsewhere is my opinion. I am sure that you can get a Ring of the same quality (or better) with one of the many online sellers out there, some of which have already been mentioned in this thread.

Don''t forget that jewelry that is "branded" will almost always carry a heavy US$ premuim. This is essentially a result of clever marketing creating a perceived worth. Are Tiffany Diamond pieces or Mikimoto Pearls really any better than their non-branded counterparts? I certainly do not think so & I simply refuse to pay exorbitant prices for a name when I know full well that in most cases it is possible to get an identical or even better quality product for less, allbeit without the branding.

the Excel combo Indie posted is the closest to the original Tiffany of all the repro''s out there IMO. If you up for a different head there are pleny of stock settings with channel set sides out there.

Thanks for the help. I am still in search of a ring, the one from Excel is very nice. I like the H&A cut diamond, it is very appealing. Whiteflash has some very nice cuts in their cut above line.

Question: does the H&A diamond return more light than a normal ideal cut round diamond?
