I have read on this forum table% < depth%
(more fire?)
On the right Table% is higher than Depth%

I have read in many places that the crown height of 8% or 9% or higher is good
On the right table% is 7.9% Left one is 12.3%

Girdle - Neither has tn-tk
Symmetry/Polish is very good for both

It seems like the one on Left looks better from the given numbers. Any body thinks otherwise? There are plenty of you very knowledgeable ... Please write your responses

Carat 2.03 (GIA 2.04) 2.03 (GIA 2.03)

Width 6.84mm 7.05mm

Depth 5.02mm (73.4%) 4.99mm (70.8%)
(GIA 72.7%) (GIA 70.5%)
Table 4.30mm (62.9%) 5.20MM(73.8%)

Crown Angle 37.7 37.1
Pav Angle 39.4 57.5
Pav Height 57.6% 59.7%
Crown Height 12.3% 7.9%
Girdle 3.6% 3.1%
(3.2% - 3.9% GIA tn-stk)(2.7% - 3.5% GIA vtn-stk)

Im concerned about the vtn rating on the girdle on the right one.

Princesses are prone to breakage and vtn makes it worse.

It seems to me that the very different table sizes yield a different look. Which one do you prefer? The suitability of the girdle should be evaluated by a pro.

It's a big purchase! Don't be in a hurry! There are many many fish in the diamond sea.

The L/W is the second one you offered- 1.037- and it will still look square when mounted.

I, too, would stay away extremely thin or very thin girdles- I'm not always gentle on my jewelry and wouldn't want to have to worry about chipping the girdle (or worry about someone else chipping it when being mounted). I went with a medium polished girdle on my princess stone. Thin to sl thick is good (stone #1).

Can you look at both stones?
My princess has a table of 62.x & a depth of 70 (similar to stone #1) & it's amazingly firey and brilliant- it blew away everything else I saw.

Crown height, you're probably better off with higher than 7.9- that's fairly shallow. I believe ideal is 9-ish for a princess, not taking into account angles, etc.

Good luck with everything

Thanks alexh

Can you look at both stones? NO The info is from the GIA report.
I am leaning toward the 1st one; when I was enquiring about this, the jeweller sent me an e-mail with info for 2nd stone and said it is a better stone but would cost $300 more. He gave me no explanation as to why it is better? That's why I am hoping to get the comments from the forum members. I am a little disappointed because I don't see any overwhelming response from the periscope community.

From the numbers alone the first looks like a fine make and the second rather average. I would call a high crown on a princess very desirable - it would almost certainly mean more fire (colored flash due to light dispersion) regardless of other details.

No idea why the jeweler would think the second is better, but quite a few details point out to #1 as the best. In almost every regard it is more desirable: better depth and table numbers, higher pavilion, no issues with girdle thickness.... Both stones should be square enough.

In all honesty, $300 is not the kind of price difference I would associate with a significant increase in quality for such stones, but rather with some random pricing factor (such as premium). Not important at all. So the slight price differential could also be a trick to signal that the second stone is more desirable (this is why it would be more expensive, right

) without making the price difference a burden to you. Of course, this could be wrong, but the first stone IS better cut - according to what I know, of course.

One more thing you guys...

Does #1 falls in the class 1A?

Sounds like!

The only number diverging from the specs of class 1A is teh crown hight (my favorite) and that just by 1% - so within accepted limits. This is as good a cut as one may want it

Pictures?

You don't mention color or clarity, but as far as cut is concerned the one on the left looks more promising.

Numbers don't tell the whole story on fancy cuts though. A visual inspection is the only way to know for sure.

The 12.3% crown height, along with the smaller table to larger depth ratio, gives the great probability of a bright and fiery stone.

Thanks Rich,
It turned out not so good.
Now I've this one looks like overall AGS class cut 1B. !!! Feel free to give your commnents !!!
It does have feather, cloud and extra facet. so ... how good is this?

what would be a ball park value on this? any one wants to take a shot at this?
You guys are great! I have much better understanding about the diamonds. Thanks everyone. pqcollectibles, thanks for your enthusiasm. I can't thank enough for Dave's input.

Any one ....
what would be a ball park value on this?

For a value, check into it on www.pricescope.com using the search engine. Type in similar parameters and look at actual stones for sale. That will give you an idea of what is a reasonable price. Good luck.

What is your take on this Mara.
I have seen some of the other threads with simialr question.
I am not trying to play agmes like some. I genuinely like to know how much would others pay for it because lots of them have dealt with diamonds unlike me and have apretty good guess.

Unfortunately I cna't really be of too much help since I don't know much about princesses.

But you note that it's a 1B AGA grade which is actually very good for a princess. It seems harder to find stones in those great ranges. If the stone speaks to you and has good numbers, which this one appears to have, and is lively in person, it may be a winner.

As for pricing, as I noted, check out some Pscope similar stones OR check out www.goodoldgold.com because he has some princesses that you may be able to price compare against, as well as www.whiteflash.com because they also have some princesses in their expert selection. So hopefully you can find a few examples similar to yours and figure out if what you are being asked to pay is reasonable.

Good luck!
