3-stone ring Girls - are you out there?

looking for help :wavey: I have been thinking of a 3 stone for ages and finally have my stones. The question is, should the sides be lower or have the girdles on the same visual line? Measurements are 7.3x9.01x7.3. It will be a right hand ring so finger size is 5.5. Thank for your help

I personally prefer the side stones to be set lower than the center. To me, it allows the center to still be the star. However, others prefer then all on the same line. No right or wrong but rather personal preference.

I agree except when the sides are almost the same size as the center then I like them on a more similar line. But still a teensy bit lower.

I like the same height.

I agree with MGR. The stones are going to span 23.6mm across your finger @HollyC and I am not sure a size 5.5 finger would have the real estate for that.

@HollyC I was doing the maths on finger real estate for a five stone a couple of days ago!

The circumference of a US 5.5 is around 50.5mm.

When we look from the top / “real estate”, it’s around 35-40% of that, so in your case ~20mm. However, we need to take into account that the stones will be set higher than the actual band itself, so we can add a few mm. Your stones are 23.6mm in total as @maryjane04 points out.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is: I can’t wait to see it, it’ll have such presence!

If they’re all set on the same line, it’ll look bigger than when the side stones are set slightly lower. The side stones set in-line will also be more tilted due to the curvature.

For this size, I think I’d prefer the side stones to be set slightly lower but I will caveat that I don’t own a three-stone of similar proportions to yours so this is all based on theory :)

Very excited to see the ring on your finger, you have such style and exquisite taste!! :kiss2:

I would go for tilt. Mine are only slightly angled- I have a size 5 finger and my three stone is about 3.4 and as you can see it takes up a lot of space. I can’t imagine no tilt on 5ct + on your finger.

^^ those last two are perfect examples. I missed the measurements in your post. Thems some huge rocks!

Thank you all so much. You are ledgends! So the stones will be tilted. Ring holder and blu tack…… haha

I started out with almost no tilt on mine, then i redid it to have slight tilt... and honestly I wish i did MORE tilt! LOL!

Im a size 4.5, center is 9.20x9.68x7.11 and my sides are each approx 7.3x7.3x5.4

So how much is more tilt? If I was to wear it on my left which is 4.5 I think I would do what @MissGotRocks suggests and drop the sides to tuck them in a wee bit but because it will be on my right hand I was thinking to keep it slightly tilted?

I dont actually know because the CAD doesnt have the angles on it! It was tough because the diamond is 7.1mm, so no matter what mine is going to be high to start. Im trying to find the CAD for the redo

Such a beautiful ring.

Looks like you will be tilting! I am sure your ring will look lovely.

Not to be a downer but for anyone else considering the issue, you might want to view your stones tilted before you decide whether/how much to tilt them. It does affect how they look to your eye even if they are well cut. I had a three stone reset from my ring finger (6.5) to middle finger (9) and am much happier.

I’m sure @HollyC will be happy and hope she posts her ring!

That is such great advice @oncrutchesrightnow I think I will get a couple of waxes done to make sure. I’m not generally into all the minutiae of ring setting but this for sure has me second guessing

This is a good point re tilt especially for old cuts. They often have a tilt window. My old cuts in my five stone show some tilt windowing. I’m ok with it especially as they are 5mm stones. It may or may not bother you. You can see if your sides have this issue just by looking at them from various angles in your holder. It could look like a grey or dark area in the far side of the table from your viewing position. Here’s an example in an old ring I briefly owned many years ago (and wish I had kept but that’s another story).

I think I understand @Dreamer_D my 5 stone has the same dark spots

@HollyC Is DK doing the setting? They are so good at working with people to make sure you get what you want!

No he isn’t. I’m getting it done at home in Brisbane. I got the stones from @bejewelled_bliss and I was all set for her to set them as she would have known exactly what to do because she has such a great eye but I got them sent home - I’m an idiot :lol-2:

Hi!
Just chiming in about side tilt.. I bought this ring ready made from Grace so I didn't have a choice but without the side tilt it would have never fit across my finger. :D 973850973851

Me too! I just find it more classic and feminine when they’re lower.

Thank you so much @HollyC
I'm so happy with it too. It was a ring that I definitely wanted to buy second hand as than I would know exactly how it laid on my finger.
There is a matching wedding band floating around in the jewelryverse that I haven't been able to locate. A super eagle eyed PSer saw it on instagram and I messaged that seller in CA but they never got back to me. I will see if I can find it again.
