Okay, so I need some input and feedback on a purchase that''s in the works. First of all, let me say it was a difficult decision b/c my GF likes both a round solitaire and a 3-stone oval. I decided to go with the oval b/c it''s unique.

Here are the specs:

platinum setting, baskets (1,300)
1.15, G/VS2 center ($5,750)
.50 tcw sides (.25 each), G/VS1 ($1,500)

total cost is around $8,500. Too much? I know the sides are priced a little high and the setting may be a tad high as well, but it''s a custom-made 1-piece ring and I see the value in it.

I want the sides to accent the center, but not be so small that they look disproportionate, or too big that they don''t make the center stand out. Do you think the above sizes accomplish that??

I''m going to see the wax mold with the stones tomorrow or Thursday, so that''s my last chance to change my order.

I''d love to hear your feedback ASAP!

Thanks!

The sides should be relatively small compared to the center. IMO, they could have been half a carat each before competing with the center diamond for attention.

The ring below has 1 carat center and half carat (each) sides according to the DvAtche catalog

The price of the setting sounds ok-ish - comparable to what designer settings go for. This is understandable if it is made to fit the stones exactly.

Can''t answer about pricing but I am looking forward to seeing it. Sounds beautiful! I think an oval was a nice choice-- I hardly see those but I think they are very pretty.

Thanks for the feedback! I thought about going bigger with the side stones but the jeweler I''m working with said that the .25''s would look bigger when set (as would the center stone) so they think it will look great. I like the pics shown above, mine will be slightly bigger in the center and smaller on the sides, so it really accentuates the center diamond.

**The big dilemna now is that she really likes a round solitaire, tiffany set, as well. It''s basically down to the 3-stone oval or round solitaire.

Has anyone seen a 3-stone oval with either 1 or 2 eternity bands? I think we''ll get her 2 eternity wedding bands so she can wear one of either side of the engagement ring. She''ll have a ton of options with these though, and I like the fact that she can wear the 3-stone oval alone if she wants, whereas I think a round solitaire needs to be next to a wedding band.

What do you all think?
