Hi All! I loved scrolling through these forums before we got engaged— everyone is so helpful fun and supportive!

I’d love some advice on my 3-stone cushion-cut engagement ring. I love the look (all 3 stones are just under 1ct each, with the center stone slightly larger than the sides), but I don’t love how the side stones look a little like process cut with the prongs on the corners... would it be too risky for the health of my side stones to put. The prongs on the sides instead of the corners so that their rounded cushion shape showed more? Make the center stone have 5 prongs? I don’t love how close up they look like pointy corners because of the prongs. Thank you all for the advice!

Beautiful ring! It looks to me that the side stone on the right (next to your middle finger) looks a little more square than the other two stones. I don't see the rounded top and bottom and side as much as the other stones. It could be the angle of the photo and/or my untrained eye. You may have to do a side only bezel that would be next to the shank of the ring for a softer curve. Again, a really beautiful ring.

I love your ring. I thought you didn’t like it because it was similar to Meghan Markles ring! I don’t think they look princess cut at all. It is really a lovely look on your hand.

Beautiful ring! I see what you mean about a squared off look. I think the prongs on the corners of each stone create a metal line, giving a squared look. Bezeling would look beautiful or delicate double prongs would allow for a softer contour of your stones, bringing out the cushiony shape.

@luv2sparkle Thank you! Haha I love both meghan’s and my ring- I just love the look of cushions. Someone at a ring shop asked if they were asscher too... shape-shifters apparently. I’m glad you don’t think they look princess

@Bonfire the double is a good idea... is putting prongs on the sides instead something that’s ever done? I saw one that had that on auction but they were OMC cushions. More pics above with clearer view of each side stone square-ish-ness.

So appreciative to you all for the dialogue ❤️

I love your ring. It doesn’t look princessy to me at all. I can tell they are cushions. I wouldn’t change anything. Sorry I’m no help.

@LLJsmom thank you : ) You're probably right. It could be because the center one is definitely rounder vs the side stones (esp R side), so in comparison the look more angular.

For reference, the pic is the OMC from a The-saleroom auction I was looking at this spring... 5 prong side, 6 prong center, 5 prong side... I do love the character of OMC, but they were a fair bit smaller than what we went with (more like in the high .7/.8's).

You could also look into doing double prongs, that may round the corners a bit.;)2

Your ring is beautiful as-is, but I do agree with the suggestion to bezel. I am playing with a three stone cushion bezel idea myself, and have these two rings saved in my inspiration folder, if they’re of any help. I don’t know who made the first one, but the second was made by SingleStone. I think - when all three stones are the same-ish size & shape - bezels help define their shape a little more and provide a little separation so every stone is a star.

I love your ring! Wonderful proportions and nice flow ...

Have you considered having the current prongs thinned out to more of a refined claw-style prong? It would lessen the amount of metal at the corners and the pointier claw prong would I think reveal the cushion shape much more than your current prongs.

Ditto this. I think thinner claw prongs would be less bulky and thus truer to the shape of your cushions than the ball prongs.

@epgee I think you're right too.. we're going in soon to pick wedding bands and I'm going to ask about that option for sure. Bezel is beautiful but changes the style so much (and I like the prong look)

@marymm I think that's a really good idea. An antique jeweler said some of the prongs are bigger than others so it sounds like they could stand some thinning-out. I can't wait to ask about these options.

You all are the best!

Another vote for double claw prongs on all 3 stones.

Or look into tab prongs on the corners- different look, but similar result in terms of showing the shape I bet.
