3 prong basket setting for studs?

Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with a 3 prong basket setting for earrings? Most seem to be either 4 prong basket OR 3 prong martini.

The 3 prong basket appeals to me b/c I like the idea of a 3 prong setting, but I'm concerned about martinis digging into my piercing. I don't like too much metal showing, and I want something that will really show off sparkle. On the other hand, I don't want the earring to project too much from the lobe.

Another setting I like is the 6 prong low-set wire basket, but will that be too much metal?

I appreciate any thoughts you could share. I'm new to all of this.

:)

I previously had three prong martini settings and the base of the setting tended to sink into the piercing. The diamonds didn’t show off as well either. Mine are currently in a four prong basket with a flat base. This works well for me. I think other have the martini settings though and have no issues. Hopefully, some of them will chime in as well. There are some beautiful six and eight prong settings! As for too much metal, it might depend on the size of the diamonds you are setting.

Ive had both the 3 prong martini and the 3 prong basket. Both work well in my ears. I preferred the look of the low set martini, but my studs were only .30 ct each. They were very comfortable. I traded that pair in when I upgraded to a 2 ctw and i chose a 6 prong martini from Whiteflash. This setting is my favorite, thus far!

I will be using .5 carat in each stud, 1 CTW

Thanks! 6 prong martini might be similar to the 6 prong low set wire basket. Do you have a photo of those studs? I know your stone is bigger, but it could be instructive!

These are the 6 prong martinis from WF.

Pretty! Thanks for the link! I wonder what size stone is in that picture. Any guess?

I think those are about 1.5 ct each. If you scroll down on the WF page there should be a gallery with pictures of different size stones.

I think how a 3 prong martini works for you depends a lot on your piercings. One of my piercings is slightly tilted and when I had three prong martinis the tilt on one was a bit noticeable. I ended up with WF 8 prong martinis. The more rounded bottom kept the tilting issue at bay. My stones are about .90 each so larger than yours, but the metal isn't really all that noticeable. Maybe you would be happy with the 6 prong?

Thanks :) Yeah, there is a 6 prong low profile basket that might be cool for me.

Here are screenshots of the three settings I am considering.IMG_4080.jpegIMG_4081.jpegIMG_4082.jpeg

Are those from Stuller? If so, I have the 8 prong martini from them as well as the WF 8 prong martini.
Here is a photo of the two next to each other. The white is WF, the yellow is Stuller. Once on my ears, they look identical although the WF prongs are more claw like.
I also like the 6 prong low mounting.

I have a 6
Prong from
Alex
Parks but it’s in white gold.
Looks very similar
To your second pic. I can’t find a picture of mine at the moment, but he has some on his IG if you want to see pics. I cannot wear 3 or 4 prong bc of my piercings and the 6 prong look great.

Thanks! these look great. Yes, my jeweler uses Stuller. But I don't see a 6 prong martini on the site, just this 8 prong, and a 6 prong low basket. So, yours sit snug to the lobe, but not "in" the piercing?

Cool. Is your six prong a martini type or basket?

Do the 3 or 4 hurt you or is it the way they look in your ears that bothers you?

Thanks for the IG tip! I will try to find a picture. :)

Awesome! These look very similar to what I'm consider for mine. So helpful. Thank you so much. What is the tcw or size per stud? Also, not to be greedy, but do you have any shots of the front of the earring?

yes, the are pretty low profile but don't sink into the piercing.
White Flash has a 6 prong martini but I don't see one on Stuller either.
I don't know if you'd want the 8 prong, but if you do, IIRC there was a post where someone had used it on stones about .30 cts, smaller than yours but if you can find the post, you can see what a smaller stone looks like set that way.

I just did a quick search and although not the post I was thinking of, it seems @josieKat has 8 prong martinis for smaller stones. Maybe she could post a photo for you.

These are .70 each and 1.4ctw
I don’t have them on me at the moment for a pic. I’ll see if I can find on my camera roll later.

I have had both martini and basket setting and chose 4 prong basket settings for my current pair. Very comfortable and you can’t see the metal. You can find my pictures and review if you click on my name and go to my post about it.

Good luck deciding!!
