Hi everyone! :wavey:

I have been working for months on finding the old cut stone for my 10 year anniversary. I have only seen 1 large OEC in person so I thought it was time to see some of the stones I am considering in person. :appl: I have been looking for an OEC but have had a hard time finding one with my specs...BIG :D (preferably over 9mm), small table, high crown, eye clean. I really like the antique cushions too (the ones that are more square than rectangular). I like the pattern on the OECs better but I like the chunkiness of the cushions...so it's kind of a toss up!

COLOR - in order to get a BIG one at this time I needed to see if I could handle the lower colors. I felt comfortable with KLM, but had never seen anything lower in real life. To be honest, I wasn't sure yesterday if I could handle the light yellowness...it didn't read as "warm" it read as lemony yellow to me. So, today I took off my E colored MRB E-ring which was really throwing me off and wrapped some yellow gold chain and my daughter's gold pendant on my finger with the stones and VOILA...pretty! So, I really think I can handle the O/P color. But, I probably need a few more days to be sure.

The players: I am going to try to make this simple and call these OEC, Cushion A, and Cushion B (original, I know)

They all face up pretty similar in size, but the cushions are meatier. The colors are remarkably similar...can hardly tell a difference and 2 were not graded except by the vendor.

STATS: I will give you what I have
OEC - 2.71, 8.8 mm, O/P, SI1
Cushion A - EGL 3.48 Antique Cushion, O/P, Vs1 8.9x9.2x6.45, 72.6 depth, 52% table
Cushion B - 3.71 Antique Cushion, O/P, SI1, 9.4x9

So, now that I gave you all the background I will get on with the pictures.

Please let me know what you think even if it is a NO on all of them. I wasn't trying to take glamour shots...just trying to get pics where you can see the faceting.

Baby just woke up from a nap...pictures coming in a minute...

I also did a photo shoot with all 3 together, but probably will have to wait until after dinner to post those because it is taking FOREVER to upload pictures for some reason...

I prefer the OEC, but curious to see more pics!

The OEC gets my vote. It has more silver, then yellowish tint and my eyes prefer that. But it might be just the pictures. More pictures would be great.

I prefer the OEC too, but those two cushions look yummy too! The profiles are amazing :lickout:

I'm not sure I like what is happening in the first cushion B photo (but let me state I know nothing about cushions!) as the faceting seems a bit disorganized in the center there and maybe some leakage? I am also not in love with the faceting of cushion A. I much prefer the OEC faceting to either of the antique cushions you have posted. All their profiles are delish though.

OEC, hands down. I wouldn't even consider the two cushions. Cushion B has fisheye and bad girdle reflection, and Cushion A has a little bit of girdle reflection in one corner but it's really obvious. They would bug me.

I think, cushion A looks awfully familiar :P If it is what I think it is, I think it's mine from the bella halo.

Here they are...all hanging out together. I've got to tell you I can't remember the last time I had this much fun.

From left to right: Cushion B, OEC, Cushion A (poor cushion B...I think I had him turned a little)

The OEC really speaks to me. Faceting is super crisp and decently symmetrical. No mushyness at all. Love it!

ETA: Cushion B would be my 2nd pick!

I like the OEC and cushion A the best. Can't wait to see what you pick!

;)

Yes! And it is gorgeous in person...as you know.

I think the thing that blows me away is just how incredibly beautiful all three are. I pick a different one as my favorite each time I look at them.

I wasn't sure if I should identify the stones, but since you outed it!

OEC!!!!

Hi Fortekitty!

So, do you think it's a good OEC then? I know you prefer it to the cushions. Just curious what your opinion is on its own.

I thought fisheye happened with overly shallow stones and this one is deep? Strange. I can see the girdle reflection you are talking about but I only see it in the pictures. I need to look at the stone in the daylight tomorrow and see if I can see that in person.

the oec is my favorite

how can you lift your hand with all that bling on it

I would think so as well, but there's a fisheye effect going on in the pictures. Darker in the very center, white around it, girdle reflection around that. Maybe that's not the proper term for it, but it looks like an eyeball to me!

I like the oec. I would probably want to see more pictures, preferably outside. I might see some on-on, off-off effect going on in some of the pictures, do you see that in person?

I am not kidding you my hand started cramping! Not complaining though.

The OEC for sure!!!

I need to look again tomorrow. There are times when I noticed that some of the center facets were dark with only a few lit up.

Omg, SO MUCH DIAMOND!!! Love your last pic

I love the size and shape of the cushions, but the facet pattern of the OEC looks best to my eye. Of course, if you want to post a ton more pics, I'm sure no one would object :naughty:

Hi GemFever!

You have pretty much nailed it! I love the faceting of the OEC, but the cushions are just so juicy in person! :lickout:

The OEC faceting is very nice. I love cushions and BIG but these two cushions' faceting are not the best. The OEC is a more beautiful diamond IMO.

Thanks for making this thread...love all the pics.

OEC for sure.

That OEC is bascially perfectly cut. You can`t get any better in my opinion. It is a one in a million.

I also like the OEC best. Will you be wearing this as an engagement ring or as a right hand ring? I wondered since you said you have an E color e-ring.

I just fell out of my chair.

I will most likely be wearing it as my e-ring. My husband and I are very sentimental about my e-ring that he proposed with so it's not going anywhere and I will wear it when I want the white-white MRB/platinum combo. But, I will most likely set this one in yellow or rose gold and it will be my warmer option.

I'm late to the party but had to join in and say I love the OEC! And you got the old cut aficionado's seal of approval. Very beautiful stone! I loved all of your pictures :lickout:
