Looking to purchase a new set of earrings. I''m leaning towards g-h colour VS2-SI1 with the best cut i can find. Are these too nice for earrings? Im looking to spend no more than 20k. Im about to hit the LA Jewelery District this week with an idealscope in hand. Any recommendations on where to start.

Gosh, it would be SO much easier to match up a pair online! I got mine last January from WhiteFlash...ideal cut and H VS2. They are beautiful and extremely well matched because WF cuts all their stones to ideal proportions. I think you''ll find that your price may need some adjustment, though, or else look at the low end of the range you mentioned.

I''ll see if I see any matched pairs that meet your specs.

Oooh, how fun!

Your parameters look fine. If they are exceptionally cut, you might even look at I''s, or J''s just for the heck of it. You''ll have the luxury of actually seeing them, so you''ll know what you can tolerate.

Can''t help on where to go, I''m not from around there.

How fun for you! If it were me I would go down to SI2 clarity if the stones are eye clean to help the budget. I also agree with Diamondseeker''s recommendation to consider buying online. You can save money and have more options to choose from unless you are set on purchasing locally. I have ideal cut H SI2 2.5 carat total studs that are eye clean and gorgeous. I did buy them at my local jewelers because I had another pair of studs that I bought from them that I needed to trade. Otherwise I would certainly have checked out Whiteflash myself.

Thanks for your opinions, should i keep the colour the same or drop even more to say an I

In these ideal cut stones, they tend to face up nice and white because they have great light performance. So you may be able to go to I color. But you''ll have to see whether you are color sensitive or not. Just keep in mind that once you go outside the ideal cut range, you may very well see more color, more leakage, etc. when viewing the diamond in various lightling situations. Just be aware that the cut is more critical to the beauty of the stone than the color. I''ve been really happy with my H color studs, so I am not sure how I''d personally feel about I color.
