My new platinum Scott Kay setting should be here by the end of this week and I''m trying to decide on a plain wedding band. I ordered a 3mm comfort fit from e-weddingbands thinking that it would be the best match, but I''m starting to wonder if maybe a 2mm would look best and be more comfortable? The SK setting is 3.1mm wide and tapers down to 2.25mm at the bottom, and the depth is 3.7mm high and tapers down to 1.7mm at the bottom.

I''ve tried searching on PS for thin wedding bands with wider e-rings and haven''t found that many. I''d love opinions and/or photos of thinner bands with wider rings!

I have a 2.3mm paired with a 2.5mm - it''s not a huge difference, but you can definitely tell that the bezel band is slimmer! I''ve also got the slightly less than 2mm knife edge band that I sometimes pair it with. Not sure if this helps, but here they are:

Thank you Gecko, that does help! Do you ever wear your plain knife edge band alone? Does it seem too thin by itself?

Here is the ring itself from Pearlman''s. I''m having them thin out the blobby prong tips so they are more proportion to the ring and my diamond''s size! Those suckers are just too huge for prong tips!

Honestly....yeah it does. Not a fan of it by itself. The lighting is horrible here, but I just snapped a quick pic and resized it to as close to life as I could (at least on my screen).

Thank you! Having owned a knife edge ring, I do think the kinfe ege gives the illusion of looking much thinner than it actually is.

I'm thinking maybe a 2mm heavy comfort fit (2mm depth)? Or maybe just a regular 2mm comfort fit (1.5mm depth)?

ETA: Your rings are still so fab Gecko!! Love them!

LOL - thanks! Here's my 2mm domed band (this may be the worst picture I have ever taken). ETA: I think the domed band holds it's own better - and mine is really low profile too.

That solitaire is going to be LOVELY! Scott Kay does good work.

The domed 2mm looks much more substantial than the 2mm knife edge!

Julian at Pearlman''s told me that the setting is gorgeous, very classic. But agreed with me that the prongs could be thinner. All I asked was that the jewler make them even. I can''t wait to get it! I''ve searched high and low on Ps looking at Scott Kay rings and have gone through your threads several time!

I love Julian, LOL. I''m sure it''s going to be fab! Scott Kay + Pearlmans = YUMMY BLING!!! Hey - I''m glad you were drooling over my stuff, LOL! If you want more pics of anything, just let me know.

But... it''ll be tomorrow. Because it''s time to sleep now, LOL!

Okay, I lied, one more, here''s the ering and the domed band: Again, sorry for the horrid picture quality.

I bought a 2mm band to use as a spacer. It''s perfect fit between my rings but I think it''s too small to wear alone. I love it but it''s tiny

I have two e-weddingbands.com 2mm platinum bands that I wear on either side of my eternity band. I think a 2mm band will be to small next to your e-ring. 3mm should look great.

Random thought: What about something like woobug02''s braided band(s)? A little more interesting then a plain band when worn alone? Just a thought! Here are links to her threads and some pics. I''ve been debating getting one myself, LOL, so I can dress down my solitaire a bit on occasion.

Geez, I just love the versatility of Woo''s bands.

My two cents, for what its worth. I love the 2.5mm sized bands. I''ve tried on the 2mm bands and they''re a tad too skinny for my tastes and I have a few 3mm bands already, but the 2.5mm seems to be the goldilocks size. Just right.

What about this ring? I believe it''s 2mm-ish. I''ve been eyeing it since Pearlman''s posted it...

Gecko- I really really like your e-ring with the 2mm plain band! It makes your diamond pop even more!

Hee. Thanks. Yeah, but it's WG, and too small, LOL! It's my original wedding band band.

I do want to get a plain one for my jeans and a T-Shirt days, but I want the metals to match.

ETA: My husband was laughing at me last night running around in my jammies taking pictures.

I thought most e-rings were at least as wide if not wider than w-bands?

Most I have found are the roughly the same size. It may be the search words I''m using though! What''s funny is that the trend use to be wide wedding band, thin solitaire (in my mom''s wedding days) but in the last few years I''ve seen more wide e-rings with thin bands. I''m trying to find more plain sets to compare and most of the thin w-bands with wide e-rings are diamond.

Sorry for the ginormous pic1 I''ve been a member for flippin ever and I still haven''t figured this out. I''ll ask admin to remove the photo.

I adore the look of thinner bands with wider rings!

Lurchie- your set is gorgeous!

Sorry to go offtopic, but....

Geckodani,

Where did you get your knife-edge band from? If you don''t mind me asking?

Thanks...

Another off topic post....
Does anyone happen to know the cost of WOOBug''s twisty bands?
Thanks....they are tdf!

My current ering tapers from about 2.5 to 3.75. I tried it with a 2mm band and I HATED the look. This is partially because the most important aspect that I wanted in an ering was for it to be 2mm because I''m uncomfortable with thicker rings on my fingers. It looked good with only two bands, a scattered diamond band that was about 3mm and a round channel set sapphire band (I have a blue spinel ering). I didn''t even like it with the 3mm plain band.

So I''m getting a reset. It''s a long story...

But I would get the ring, and then go try it on with a variety of bands and see what you like with it.

Oh, and look up MovieZombie''s set. The 8ct Spessartite in a really thick gold band with a 2mm or so band...

Here's a useful thread: Wedding sets: any 2mm e-rings with 3mm wedding bands?

Here's the first pic I posted in that thread... as I said in there, the "shoulders" of my ering are 3.3mm, but the rest is 1.9-2mm. The "wedding band" on the top is a 2mm high-dome, and the one on the bottom is a 3mm half-round.

wbcompare.jpg

Another pic from there...

The bottom band in both pics is the Tiffany Lucida (half-round) 3mm. The top one on the left is the stainless steel high dome 2mm, and the top one on the right is a 14k WG pipe-cut 2mm.

2mmshapecompare.jpg

As you can see, the higher the dome/knife edge, the thinner the "look" of the band. The 2mm pipe-cut band almost looks close to the same width as the half-round 3mm band, but the high-dome 2mm band looks significantly thinner than the 3mm. The knife edge would show this difference in look in an even more pronounced way.

That was very educational, musey. Thank you.
