hi there
I am currently on the market for a diamond for an engagement ring and recently came across the old european cut diamond style which i really like. Does anybody know if it is easy or at all possible to source these as loose stones or can they only be acquired as finished pieces (ie set in a ring).
would anybody know anybody that specialises in this particular type of diamond (I am in Sydney,Australia but am considering a trip to Hong Kong)

Unfortunately, I have no idea how the market for older stones works in Australia. I also suspect HK is not the place to go for older stones either (though the UK is another story). In the U.S., though, older stones may not be common but you can certainly track them down relatively easily--loose or set. Are you willing to deal with American online jewelers?

Buying online would not be a problem - there seem to be plenty of loose OEC. Perhaps not as many as the modern brilliants, but not hard to find (depending on specs, as usual).

Just for ref, there are several listed in the Pricescope Database and even more in thelist of "loose diamonds" posted by faycullen.com
