When looking at a family owned jewelery store (ill call it John Smith Jewelers) yesterday they were showing diamonds they called the "Smith cut." They said they had an extra 24 facets. Are extra facets a good thing? I certainly did not buy into the hype but want to make sure its not a bad thing either.

it just depends on the look you want. if *you* like it, that''s all that matters.
personally, in the smaller diamonds (around 1ct.) i don''t think it''s necessary and can be too much. above that, i think it really gives some pizazz

There are lots of modified round brilliants out there for examplle the eighternity and the solasfera, movado, on top of many others. It all depends on personal preference. For extra facets, a lot of people like them on the larger diamonds as it doesn't look as cluttered. They are also usually more expensive than regular round brilliant. The other thing is some of these cuts definitely give an incredible light performance. Check out good old gold and see their modifieds. solasfera is usually a top light performer. I believe they also have a tutorial on a couple of the modifieds they offer
