Sadly Russia is selling its rough.
But look at how vital diamonds are to African nations. Remember that all those nations tax the exports of raw materials.

Yes, it is surprising/dissappointing that sanctions are currently not impacting Russian diamond exports to any significant degree, compared to last year at least. It would be interesting to compare to earlier years to get a better idea of overall impact of sanctions. I suppose they are selling into China at discounts, and also trading in the Middle East.

Hard to imagine you can take the US and EU markets out of the equation and Russia can still sell this volume. I assume this means US and/or EU are not really out of the equation.

Thank you for sharing.

I’m intrigued as to why the $/ct varies so much? Does Namibia produce much higher quality diamonds than Congo?

Namibia has a lot of alluvial diamonds - river and ocean and only high clarity survive the trip .... make it to market

I am sure rough is going cheap to china.
Russian Indian cooperation is long and well established. The hundreds of smaller Indian CO's would be buying 15% or better using back doors and forcing prices down for ethical miners.

It’s got to be India driving the Russian exports.
Do they even cut diamonds anywhere else?
Also….. looks at the decline in pricing …. Savage

Interesting! Natural or Man made diamonds?

Are you pulling my leg David!!

If you think about it…. We’ve been living in a bubble.
For the majority of my career, the US was THE market. No place else really mattered.
Of course that’s all changed. But I guess I’m still “insulated” in a way.
The world has definitely moved on.

Worlds have a tendency to do that David :-)

In the 1970's there was a book by Alvin Toffler called Future Shock in which he posited the inevitable accelerating pace of change.

A half a century later, I think it is safe to say Mr. Toffler was right.
