My best friend and I were on our way to a bar near the Kraft Food plant in philly tonight. At about 9:20 PM my best friend received a text from her boyfriend asking where she was. She told him that we were driving along Roosevelt Boulevard. We came to a road block (next to the Kraft plant) where there were tons of police cars. The boulevard is known for being a very accident prone road so we just assumed it was another awful accident. She thought it was weird that he was asking her where she was because they had spoken only a half hour before. He texted her again and told her he was making sure she was alive. :errrr:

He then told us that two people were shot and killed inside the Kraft plant and one injured.

I really can't get this off my mind.

I do not know anyone who was in there (although my friends cousin was working inside the building at the time of the shooting) but I just feel awful.

The poor innocent people that walked into that building today, trying to earn money, had their lives taken from them, because of a 'disgruntled' employee. How disgusting, horrific, and truly awful. I cannot imagine the pain the victims families are experiencing right now.

I know things like this happen everyday somewhere in the world, but really...what is this world coming to?

I'm just so sad for everyone involved.. :((

That is terrible and really scary. Seriously - what is this world coming to.
When I read stories like this - I'm all for capital punishment.
She is clearly guilty of shooting these people and taking someone's life.

It "coming to" what it's been for a pretty long time. We've sat by as we gutted mental health in this country, and dumped most of the mentally ill and unstable onto the streets, we're in a time of massive change in the collective mind here in the US, as to our place in the world, people are losing jobs that will never be coming back, and those that do have jobs are being told to work more for less. Add all these stressors to people who might already be on the edge and just barely functioning, and who have too easy access to weapons, and you have...this. And we can't even blame "guns" because we've heard almost weekly reports out of China of some guy with a knife, killing children in schools. People historically don't deal with change very well, and this is NOT a placid time in the world.

I know the first thing I personally remember was 1987 - Patrick Sherrill at the Edmond, OK post office, going on a rampage and killing 14. The genesis of the phrase "going postal". And then of course I was a mere 8 blocks from the Murrah building in '95. I'm not saying I'm jaded - I'm NOT. But you have to get to where you can move on from this stuff, or it will make you miserable, contemplating it, and it can consume you.

So sorry to hear this... I'm sure it's just one of MANY atrocities that has passed in the last 24 hours... :nono: ;(

It's a daily occurrence SOMEWHERE in the US...

We had an incident in our town several years ago. A disgruntled employee came into the his office and searched out and killed four of his co-workers. One of the survivors became my client. All of the survivors were suffering from PTSD. Some have recovered, others have not. I don't think his case has even come to trial yet. Such needless pain and trauma :nono:

Autumn, I heard about this this morning, and I can't believe it!! Much to close for comfort! I drive by that place pretty frequently.

That's just terrible :(sad

The suspect is a woman, which is highly unusual in shootings like these. This shooting follows a shooting that occured at a distribution plant here in CT several weeks ago. Gunman killed 8 workers and then himself.

Because these rampages occur with relative frequency, and are heavily reported by the media, I think it normalizes the behavior to some extent for some and gives them some sort of license to repeat the behavior. The shooter in CT had just been terminated from his job, though they kindly offered to allow him to resign, an offer that he calmly accepted, and then proceeded to kill 8 innocent people. The woman at the Kraft food plant had apparently been suspended. She returned 10 minutes later and started killing.

No matter how atrocious the behavior, the suspect is guaranteed to have some air-time with Matt Lauer repeating his (in this case, her) name in between the weather and the segment with Martha Stewart. A few weeks later, the story repeats itself again. What was unthinkable becomes, well, normal. And here the rest of us are, wondering why?
