Hello,

Of course, platinum is more durable compared to 14K white gold (though platinum also dulls more easily) but it also costs more. I'd like to know if 2 mm rings (two mm e-ring & two mm w-band) are too fragile for 14K white gold? We'd like to pass these rings on to the future generation so that's why we thought platinum may be the way to go but wanted to know if 14K white gold was also a viable option before spending a fortune.

the style is open (diamonds exposed). see sample below.

here''s the style (for both the e-ring and w-band)

I agree. If you''re wanting an heirloom type piece, I''d get the platinum myself. You can get it repolished at the jewelers, so that''s not a problem.

No disrespect to the knowledgeable Miss Ellen

, but I think white gold is still an option, even if you are thinking of an heirloom piece. My engagement ring was my great-grandmother's engagement ring, and it is white gold, not platinum, and seems to be able to put up with a lot of knocking about. However, that being said, if the monetary difference isn't huge and you can realistically do platinum, I think plat would be my preference (for my heirloom too, but it's too late for mine

).

But yeah, my point is that you don't *have* to do plat if it's a real stretch. It will be a lovely heirloom!

Platinum - all the way. Gold, over the years, abrades, and the gold itself gets lost over time. This does not happen with platinum, and even if it scratches, the platinum itself is displaced, but it does not get abraded away.

I''d prefer platinum (but 950 plat/ruthenium because it is harder than 950 plat/iridium), but 18k white gold with palladium alloy would be a good choice, too. I wouldn''t consider 14k white gold for fine jewelry.

Platinum-it doesn't dull. A patina develops over time--love the look. Plat is more durable.

for the w-band setting i listed above, 0.84 ctw, G/H, Premium Cut, VS2/SI1 in Clarity, 2.7 mm, platinum, wide, I received a quote for $2550.

Good choice. No substitutions for platinum

You seem to have made up your mind, but I wanted to put in a good word for white gold, lol.
I like the weight of platinum, but not the patina.

thanks but what''s the difference between brush & satin? I don''t see the difference. please advise. thanks

I replied in your other thread with the finish, but brush/satin/matte basically interchangeable.
