My boyfriend and I are shopping for rings and came across a nice one made with 18k white gold at Birks. if you purchased 18k white gold engagement/ wedding ring from Birks, could you share your experience around the ring overtime? did the color become dull quickly (picture will help)? how about the maintenance of WG (do you wear it everyday? how often does it need to be re-plated with Rhodium.?...or do you just leave it like that? sometimes the warm white color is nice too)? I assume their 18k is a mix with nickel?? Thanks in advance :)!

I love to go window shopping at Birks, they have beautiful rocks.

However, you will be paying a lot more because of the Birks name, much like buying from Tiffany's. I have found the same rings from PS vendors at much lower prices.

My original e-ring is actually a Birks Contemporary Blue copycat (the picture in my avatar). In store it cost 4500$. I had it custom made for 900$!

i got my wedding band from birks back in '01 and it's perfectly fine. 18 k white gold. it's a wavy band with alternating tiny diamonds & sapphires. the orig design consisted only of diamond but i had them tweak it - the addition of sapphires.

yours is a good question since i got that sapphire engagement ring - 19 k white gold - NOT at birks and it became noticeably less white as time went on. i eventually had it re-plated while the birks one didn't need to be.

that band was relatively cheap - $590, i think. i'm not sure if they carry it anymore.

Thanks for the inputs. Those rings that both of you have are unique and lovely!
Yes, we've been checking other stores also to compare the prices and try to get the best value with our budget. There're so many things to consider such as the metal, stone quality, style, cost...it's quite overwhelming and remind me of the feeling when I tried to find my first car :P. But I guess we all know when we saw the ring we love and that's the "one". it's nice to know that both of you have a good experience with 18k WG. I recently read a lot of articles around WG vs. Platinum...but still for us the price of white gold works better since then we can put more money for the diamond (some ppl had a very bad experience with WG that somewhat discouraged me). Plus I also look for a solitaire engagement ring too like what you have.
