Me too!! My hubby is making a big ol'' fire in the pot belly stove in the basement. That will at least help the main floor stay un-frosted, but getting out of the shower is going to be fun!!!

Awe, I can''t imagine school ever being canceled due to cold here. It''s 10 here right now. Stay warm! And at least if teachers have to report you won''t have to make up the day, right?

Only -4 here this morning...it''s a little chilly but the sun is shining so it doesn''t seem so bad. -17...brrrr! I hope it doesn''t get that cold here! I definitely don''t understand why school is cancelled for students but not for teachers, that is BOGUS!!!

It's COLDER here..-24 farenheit! Kids and teachers still going to school. Been this cold since Monday..kinda getting used to it now!! Bundle up!! The roads are SO cold, that it's like driving on a skating rink. So much black ice..and 112 accidents reported yesterday before noon! The tires have no traction..it's THAT cold!! The roads look bare (no snow on them), but when I step on the gas..the car sways left and right, before going straight.

Lots of parents at work are home with kids whose classes got cancelled. It''s COLD!!!

- 18 here and no school for kids or teachers. Sorry that you didn''t get the day off too, that is just plain wrong.

Fellow teacher here and that really makes me mad for you! I''m so sorry. I don''t understand how it''s not safe for kids to go to school (that is why school is canceled for weather, no?) but somehow it''s not big deal for teachers to report? Ridiculous!!! Stay warm and hopefully you''ll be able to go home early!

I''m in the Chicago suburbs, and my school was closed today for students and teachers.

Look at it this way, Tuckins, you won''t have to make up a day, right?

I WISH we had teachers report today because we had another snow day on an institute day before winter break and now we have to work until May 22nd because of it! Our school year starts in the beginning of August. Grrrr.

The reason teachers have to report and students don''t is all about the buses, and the kids who have to wait for the buses. If the buses won''t start because it''s so cold, or if it''s too cold for the kids to have to wait outside for the buses, school is canceled. If only teachers had to take the buses to work, then you''d be off today, too!

Haven, you don''t have built-in days? We do. So unless we have more than 3 days called off for snow we never have to make them up! Our teachers never have to report on snow days. I guess I should consider myself lucky!

It wasn''t so bad... They let us come in at 8 and leave at 3, instead of 7:30- 3:40! They did provide us breakfast too... And they gave us an hour and a half lunch! I think they just wanted to give us time to get curriculum mapping and lesson plans done. It was funny... The boiler broke over night, so there was no heat in the building when we got there this morning! They did get it fixed, though.

I don''t know exactly the demographics where you live, but my school is in an urban area... With no buses. (It''s a charter school) A lot of our students walk, and it was dangerous to have children outdoors for that long- But, hundreds of schools were out and they DO have buses, so I don''t know...

Low temperatures $u*c! It was -12 here this AM [southern NH]. I just got the kitchen hot water pipe unfrozen. Yay! Got to do dishes!

Why is it, again, that I still live up here?

We don't have built-in days, no, so every single snow day extends our school year.

We're in the Chicago burbs, but last year was the first time in NINE years that we even had a snow day. Our old administration took a pretty hard line on calling off school. I guess our new superintendent isn't so tough!

My community college classes were held yesterday (and today, but I don''t teach on Fridays this semester). I was there and was surprised to see all of my students there, also.

A TON of instructors canceled though, which was a serious bummer since it was the first day of class. A lot of students showed up to find that their instructor wasn''t there (we usually put weather info on the syllabus, so new students may not have known how to check for canceled classes).

The neighboring school district also had classes - but the superintendent didn''t realize that there would be an issue with the buses - a third of their fleet wouldn''t start, and half of the remaining ones were over and hour behind. Nice, eh?

I think our school was the only one open in SE Michigan... Brrrrrrr.... and not the best day to have furnace issues either.

Stay warm everyone!!

Our kids were out of school yesterday and today, yesterday due to heavy snow and today because of temps, we live in the country and the back roads are a mess and the temp this morning by my truck was minus 16, its crazy. Our kids get 5 calamity days, today was day #5, so any days beyond this they will have to make up.

-24 here today, with the windchill it was -52. School here has been closed for the last two days due to the extreme cold. suppose to be almost 30 above by Tuesday of next week though.....

Here''s a good laugh.. this morning it felt like -50f.. I don''t know what it was, but later on I went outside and thought it was warm! I checked the temp..
it was -11 and felt like -19. Yeah. IT FELT WARM! LOL

This is one reason I loved growing up in the south. School gets called off if there''s even a quarter inch of snow. We''re just not equipped to handle the stuff. It was fifteen above zero today and some schools cancelled. And once I was out of school for a week due to an ice storm. It was GREAT!

My hubby still was SUPPOSED to have class on Wednesday night... But because of all of the black ice all over the place, he missed his first class. It was a 99 minute commute from our house to ALMOST to his school (usually no more than 15-20), and there were hundreds of accidents, so I begged him to stay home.
