Hi, I''m a newbie shopping for the engagement ring in Tiffany knife edge setting style and through this forum I''ve learnt that both Whiteflash and Excel have very close reproduction. It seems to me that there have been several revisions to Tiffany knife edge setting for Whiteflash.
what''s the difference between:

http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Solitaire/Tiffany-Knife-Edge_792.htm

and

http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Solitaire/Classic-Tiffany-Style-Knife-Edge_1137.htm#

To my untrained eyes, it looks like the first one has shaper prong ends?

Also, is there a side by side comparison picture of whiteflash vs excel tiffany knife edge? I couldn''t find one on the forum.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Just FYI, Whiteflash does not sell the setting by itself. I just purchased the Excel six prong version and will be receiving on Monday. Will post my thoughts after review.

The two settings look very similar to me. The prongs do look slightly different to me. You can always email or call Whiteflash and ask them about the difference. Which one are you more interested in?

I am looking to get the knife-edge 6-prong tiffany setting too! The whiteflash ones look great, but too bad they don''t sell it separately and they don''t have a diamond that is in the exact size/color/clarify range that I''m looking for. Thanks for the BG information, assuming he sells the setting separately, would I send him the loose diamond to have it set?

Wait, what? How do we know WF won''t sell just the setting? Has something changed? I helped someone buy one of their settings, and they just sent their stone from another vendor off to them to set?

It says so in the description in blue, for example -

This setting can only be purchased with a diamond(s)

This is what is says under the description.

As far as I''m aware it''s always been like this. I can remember looking at this setting ages ago and it had the same message.

I would like to hear about your thought on Excel six prong version especially because I do like the Excel ring better. Only thing is I found a diamond to my lliking at Whiteflash site and I don''t know if I like the idea of buying a diamond from one vendor and a ring from another.. I saw that one guy actually did that on the forum and it seemed like a lot of work

Just curious, what makes you like the Excel setting better? They all kind of look the same to me.

I bought my platinum Tiffany style 6 prong knife edge setting from a company called Stuller. I was able to order it from my local jeweler, and thus, have him set my diamond. Just another brand for you to look into.

Let me throw in another question here.
Does anyone know what platinum alloy excel is using? I did a quick search through their website, but couldn''t find the info.
Tiffany seems to use 95% platinum with 5% ruthenium.

http://www.tiffany.com/Expertise/Material/TiffanyPlatinum.aspx?assortmentid=102&originurl=%2FSiteIndex.aspx%3Fcookietest%3D1

I sent an email to a whiteflash rep so I''ll find out soon whether WF uses 95 platinum/5 ruthenium mix.
I am a bit nervous though that it could be 95 platinum/5 iridium, I swear I saw on their website somewhere that it was 95 platinum/5 iridum for their knife edge wedding band about 10 mins ago, and then I clicked around different rings and it was gone.

Most people on the forum says that excel is better and looking at the picture snlee posted on this thread
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/wf-tiffany-vs-superbcert-tiffany.62213/
you can see that they look pretty darn close to each other.

But like I said initially, it looks like Whiteflash did some modifications since then and I''m wondering if whiteflash one looks more close with their prong looking more delicate like Tiffanys now.. but i can''t tell without a side by side comparsion picture

Well, if you like the Excel and Whiteflash has the stone that you like then get both. Buy the stone from Whiteflash and have Excel set it. I''m getting the Whiteflash setting myself. I think it''s really pretty in it''s own right. But you should get what makes you happy.
