It''s one month until Valentine''s day so what is everyone expecting or hoping for? Obviously a proposal would be great, but does anyone have plans already or gifts picked out?

since it''s after midnight that I''m posting this, it''s not exactly a month until Valentine''s day whoops
20.gif

Anywho, I''m hoping for a journey diamond necklace.

I used to think those were so cheesy but after almost 6 yrs together, I love the symbolism and of the necklace

I''m just looking forward to spending Valentines together. Although wev''e been together over 3 years we''ve never been able to be together on valentines before. YAY!
9.gif

I''m less excited about Valentines Day than I am about the fact that it''s now less than two weeks from my anniversary!!!! 4 years. I really couldn''t be happier.

Hooray for V-Day, but I have no idea what to do about a gift for my man. I want to get him something cool and fun, but I am still recovering from Christmas.

Congrats on four years, Princesss!

Prinny, a journey necklace sounds lovely. I hope you get it! I wish FI could be convinced I needed more jewelry. What are you getting your SO?

I already got my gift... 3 prong .25 g/si1 solitaire pendant.. hoping for dinner though on vday ;)

no gifts for us, but we do go out to dinner and usually he pays, and i buy champagne and dessert.

I will be getting my wisdom teeth out three days before, so I will just be recovering. I don''t mind though, V''day never really meant all that much to me. Our romantic, celebrating us as a couple day is our anniversary and our birthdays.

On another note, I went to the family courts to observe hearings as part of my placement on Tuesday, and all of the divorces take one month and one day to finalise, so everyone who had their divorce approved on that day will have their divorce finalised on Valentines day! What a present
20.gif

We are keeping it low key. The economy is bad and his loans go into repayment next month. We are going to cook dinner together, so we will both pick sides, and each of us gets to choose the entree that the other will cook (I already know he wants steak of some sort, lol!) Should be fun. I am thinking of surprising him with a couples massage class, or a DIY project that will just be silly and fun. His B-day is literally a month from V-day, so I get hit hard from Dec-March. I am soooooooo broke!
38.gif

I also agree with the previous poster... We have been together for 5 years (5.5 in March!), and this is the first V-day that I remember where we will be together!

We''re also keeping it lowkey....BF has been pretty clear that we need to save money (for our wedding next year!!!!!!). We agreed to make dinner together and then we''ll probably watch a movie or something. Maybe I can get him to play Scrabble as my v-day present....

I think we are planning on getting take out (pizza or Outback) and heading down to the beach to watch the sunset! For the past two years we have been trying to see the sunset on Valentines day, but we always miss it by a couple of minutes, its still beautiful right after, but I think theres something romantic about actually seeing it set. If we get to the beach by sunset it will be a miracle. We don''t normally exchange gifts on v-day, but always cards so I''m sure we will continue that tradition. FF has said he will propose in the month of February (this year I hope, haha), so there is always the chance of a Valentine''s Day proposal. I know some people might think thats cheesy, but I''m a pretty cheesy person so I think it would be very cute and romantic and a Valentine''s Day neither of us would ever forget!
30.gif

We are also keeping it low-key....he asked last night what I want to do for V-Day and I said dinner would be nice. I am not one to care much about V-Day.

That said, I am really really hoping for a proposal sometime during the month of February and I doubt he''d do it on V-Day...so if he does it before, I may treat HIM on V-Day and if he hasn''t done it yet, well, I will tell him to save his money and we can get McD''s for dinner :)

And congrats to everyone else celebrating an anniversary near Valentine''s day.

SO and I usually don''t go out to eat bc the waits are ridiculously long and SO prefers to cook for me. It''s much more romantic IMO
30.gif

I don''t know what to get him though
33.gif
he''s really hard to shop for. Good thing I still have some time

Wow I haven''t even thought about Valentine''s Day! Although, I couldn''t help but laugh-I coach jr high cheerleading, and my girls were so upset when they found out we were competing that day. They''re more excited about v-day than I am!

It's my favorite holiday (yes, one of those hopeless romantics), so I'm a bit partial to hoping i'll have a
emlove.gif
Valentine's Day proposal
emlove.gif
! I have a feeling it wont though, so I'm really trying not to get my hopes up!

To me, Valentines Day is a Hallmark holiday that means nothing more than a reason for roses to be priced at a zillion times their regular price and a way to coax men into buying expensive dinners and treats. Sorry, not trying to be a bah humbug, but I don't feel any more romance on Valentines day than I do any other day.

This year though, the day after Valentines Day is the day I'm looking forward too. Flogging Molly + Floor Seats + A trip into NY = FUN!!

We generally do a low-key Valentine''s day - restaurants and such are generally swamped. We''ll probably get pizza and snuggle up on the couch and watch movies, which sounds completely perfect to me. No gifts, but cards are essential.

I'm not expecting anything grand as we had such a lovely Christmas. We usually go out to eat...but Valentines is on a Saturday this year so who knows what we will do! I love that day anyhow
30.gif
We always have a good time regardless.

Oh, and I'm not expecting a proposal.

Well, this is how romantic we are...we''ve rented a condo to share with some friends that weekend.
20.gif
Actually, it should be fun. We''ll do some x-country skiing and bring snowshoes. We haven''t discussed yet if what we''ll do for dinner that night. Usually when we do stuff like this we try to make most of our food at "home", but maybe we''ll take that night to eat separately.

For special occasions like this we tend to do a weekend away instead of actual presents, but I do have my eyes set on a certain Tiffany necklace...my birthday is about a week before so maybe I can convince him it can be a dual gift. Since the Monday after V-day is a holiday, and we both have it off from work, I decided to extend our mini-vacation and get a hotel for one more night. I LOVE hotwire! I got a really fancy place for just over $100! So, I suppose that''s my gift to SO. I''ll get him a mushy card too because I know he likes them (I couldn''t care less!).

Aww, bobbin! I hope the wisdom teeth thing goes okay. I''d totally use it as an excuse to swap out V-day chocolates for V-day slushies.

I totally agree, except that I''d change that "men" bolded above to "people." Why not show your love for each other by going to a restaurant on a night when you don''t have to fight tooth and nail for a reservation? Meh, maybe I''m just a humbug too.

We used to feel the same way about Valentines day. It was never really a big deal at our house. I mean we''d do something really small and personal but nothing outrageous, so this year we decided to make the day extra special and give it a WHOLE new meaning to us that will last for years to come:

We''re getting Married on Valentine''s day!!!

Now it will always be extra special to us and it won''t just be another "Hallmark holiday". I will actually be OURS and have a whole new meaning to us

How wonderful!!! That is so sweet and very special for the two of you. Did you do any decorations red/white to go with the day? Congrats again

We''re having a party at our place! We have been wanting to throw a get together for a while and life kept getting in the way, so we''re doing a dessert & cocktails night. We figure that way if people want to go out for dinner they can but then they can come over to our place for some delicious dessert!

Princesss, we must have really close anniversaries! Ours is the 21st, it'll be 5 years

yay!

I already got cards for the anniversary and valentine's day, and I think I'll get him a small token gift for each, too. Nothing super-thoughtful or personal, just something fun! We don't usually make much of a deal over special occasions.

Maybe something like these cute cute collar stays:

This year we''re going to Vegas since it''s a long weekend, and we can drive there (I''m from Southern California), and we used points so we are staying at the Bellagio for free! I think other than that we will keep it pretty low-key though, nothing big planned. We were originally trying to go somewhere beachy for vacation at some point over the holidays, and that fell through, so this is our delayed trip. I can''t wait!

Bah! TWO Humbugs!

I guess everyone has their choice tradition to buck. I figure all the V-days in the world will cost a lot less that the wedding that we will be skipping (hopefully). Talk about saving $$$! (I'm a wedding humbug!) I love SO everyday, but nothing wrong with reminding him on a particular one! Plus we have a lot of fun! We have V-day weekend, and one day he plans the activities, and the other day I plan the activities. So we both have to participate and it is so much fun to lavish and spoil each other. I think that any opportunity to dote on your SO should be taken and run with!

I feel the same way! I would rather FF and I save the money we would spend on flowers/cards/chocolates/dinner/etc. for something else in the future. (Something sparkly maybe
31.gif
) We will probably do one of our typical weekend nights with the DVR and a bottle of wine, and that''s just fine with both of us.
