Hello and congrats on looking to purchase a diamond. My husband and I are upgrading to a 1 carat princess cut diamond with F color and VS1 clarity. Our local jeweler priced us at around 3500/4000 for close to perfect square dimensions (since I do not prefer rectangular princesses). I do know after pricing around the internet as well, that princesses are less money than round brilliants. Take a look on pricescope and you should find internet vendors pricing. I was shocked that a 1 carat from our jeweler is comparable to the internet. So, realize there are competitive prices out there for quality diamonds.

PS (as an aside):
I currently have an E color stone and cannot tell the difference between a D and E. Just something to thing about in terms of cost AND my stone is a VVS2 and obviously can't tell the difference between VVS2 and VS1. There is alot of discussion on this forum about paying for something you can't see. I know in looking for an upgrade, we realize we are saving money by going one grade lower for color and clarity.

C)4Whitmer, based on the percents, I like the first one better. I don't think a D is necessary, as my friend has a D, VVS1 1.06ct princess, and my E is just as white as hers, to her fury...

The second stone has a larger table, which will make the stone look slightly larger, but I will admit that having a table larger than your depth is not my most attractive ratio. If possible, try to find an F, VS1 or VS2 with a depth around 65-72% and a table of 63-69% To me, these have been the most sparkly and the most fiery at the same time, without being full of unseen carat weight. It's not an easy find, but that's still my suggestion.

But if you can't find it and want acceptable, don't get a table that's SO much larger than the Depth as this can cause a Fishe eye and can look like a dead pool of glass in the center...

Also, I hope you are reading around the posts here, because lately there has been much princess talk that could really help you understand the concepts, like THIS thread.

Is the VVS1 of special symbolic value to you? Or you are just looking for a no excuse eye clean stone?

There is more info on the first piece, so this would make my choice biased for it. However, seeking a perfect princess cut I woudl definitely get one with some light return report in place (Ideal Scope or Brilliance Scope). There os no receipe to turn those angles into a prediction for light return for this shape.
