I''m not very big. (5''1, 100lbs.) Will it look too much on me for everyday wear? Or should I just have it set in a ring?

In general it's not too much, but it partly depends on the setting (where you are everyday, not the mounting

).

I think it would look lovely in a pendant for everyday wear.

Probably just work and going out on the weekends. Maybe I should reconsider what to do with it. It's just such a good deal that i dont want to give it up, yet i dont know if i'll entirely want to wear it as a pendant because I cannot see it.

Jennifer5973 and I had this very same discussion. That is one of the reasons I bought another tennis bracelet instead of buying a necklace ... it is because I can look at the bracelet and enjoy it.

Would you consider mounting it in a right hand ring instead?
As you can tell from my avatar, I like pears.

ring, ring, ring!

then you can look at that gorgeous puppy every day. (i must admit i sort of stole this sentiment from alexah, who said she decided to go right hand ring over earrings for that very reason. i'm likin it!)

I can't wear big rings because I use my hands a lot and they're always knocking into things. I also have small, skinny fingers so it would look out of place on me, especially at my work place where it's mostly programmers who don't wear jewelry. I should just get it for my cat as a collar. Don't you think it'll look nice?

I am also on the petite side with the active hands and small skinny fingers and feel your pain in our inability to venture into larger hand bling.

I think it would be lovely as a pendant. How great of a pick-me-up would it be to look at a mirror at the end of a long day at work and see that baby winking at ya? And c'mon ladies, how many of us have needed a pick me up when looking into the mirror after one of THOSE mondays?

Top 5 reasons why I can't wear a big ring:

1) I will be staring at it all day. My office lighting is mesmorizing.
2) I will not get any programming done.
3) I will get in trouble.
4) I will probably get fired.

which means:

5) I will not be able to buy any more diamonds.

Oh yea, not to mention my boss is a petty woman who owns a crappy, included 1ct RB. She will probably find a way to get rid of me if I ever showed up with a honker bigger than hers! (and it will appear much larger because my fingers are a lot skinnier than hers!)

Today would have been a good day.

Would it appear too conceited if I were to set up a mirrow on my desk so I can stare at it all day at work? I swear I'm staring at the diamond and not myself!

I have seen a ring that converts from pendant to ring. Has anyone seen it? the shank part turns and you can slip a chain thru it to wear as a pendant or you can keep it normal as a ring.

I have a 2.01ct pear pendant. Only admire it when I look at myself in the mirror, which could happen a few times a day especially when I wash my hands after visiting the toilet. That's enough. Unless it is a top diamond, it's better not to waste it on a ring.

I vote for wearing it....each and every precious day! You can't enjoy it ... if it's sitting at home in a box!

I say get what you want, wear it and enjoy it. I personally don't care what others think. I buy jewelry because I want to enjoy it.

I wear a 3.01 ct pear e-ring and I have a size 3.75 finger (which is also on the small side). I am also a Consultant in the IT business and started by programming mainframes more than 20 years ago. At work, I am surrounded by a sea of programmers. I get my work done even though I sneak peaks at my ring while typing on the keyboard so I am having a little trouble understanding what your concerns are.

I was joking... I just don't like wearing bigger rings because it does get in my way. My fingers fluctuate between 3-3.5, and a stone that size will span almost entirely across my finger, which i feel is slightly too much for someone my age. I'm only 26.

You can pull off a larger pendant a lot better than a larger ring. I don't think that size stone is going to look large at all if it's hanging from your neck.

Well, she doesn't want it in a ring, and I don't think she wants a pendant, so that leaves earrings or a bracelet both of which don't work very well with a 1.75 pear. I think we are going in circles.

Yes ! Yes! jewelry that one can play with is great! The only downside with this one - you'll get to decide every day hw to wear it: pendant or ring

One ca find such ring designs out there from time to time, but around PS, Wink has one listed in his online "scrap book". That one is a bezel with a tourmaline, but things can change. If you do choose to go this way It will definitely be a exciting project.

Hi,

Have you tried on a diamond of the size you're thinking of to see how this looks? This is what I'd recommend. I'm petite as well and thought that I could never wear larger diamond earrings (lol) but, unfortunetly for my husband's sake, I tried on 2 CTW stud earrings and they looked great

hehehe. . .

Seriously, try on a few sizes and think about it for a week or even a month. Go back and retry on various sizes a few times and this will help you decide. This is what I did with my pendant and it still took me a good month and a half to see what suited me best and I ended up making the right choice

Well, the reason I was considering this stone is because it appears to be a VERY good deal. GIA 1.75ct Pear, I, Si1 ~~>$5000, and it comes with 2 settings, one made of 14kt gold and another made with Platinum, and .4ct of bags on the side. Stone is eye-clean, (have not seen it myself yet, but the jeweler said it's clean). I am sure the seller would be willing to drop the price down a bit more if I really wanted to negotiate with him.

I found it on eBay but the rings are currently on cosignment thru a jeweler. Have not inspected it in person yet, but the pictures I have seen so far look very impressive. The bowtie is hardly noticeable, and the shape is extremely pleasing to the eye. It's nice and fat. Just the way I like my fancies.

Do you think it's a waste of money to get something just because it's cheap? I already have several diamond rings and some nice earrings so I thought a pendant would be nice to have.

If you can afford it and you have wanted a pendant, I don't see a problem. I know someone who has a 1.5 ct pear pendant (used to be her mother's engagement ring stone) and it's really, really lovely--very different and elegant. She is also petitie--under 5 ft and thin. I'll try to describe it--it's in a yellow gold thin pear-shaped "frame" but not bezel--it's almost suspended in the "frame" and the yellow gold chain of some substance on either side (a nice herringbone perhaps--can't quite remember) I know it may sound ugly (the words "gold" and "herringbone chain" may frighten some people

) but it is a stunning piece.

if all the details pan out, it sounds like a great bargain...they are few & far between but they are out there.

I vote you go for it, if it looks as good as it sounds. And I think pears make beautiful pendants!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I have a nice sized jewelry fund set aside and it's itching to be spent. And since it's such a great deal, there'll be plenty left over for my next piece!Guess the only thing left is to make the trip and see it with my own eyes!
