Hello!

I'm looking at 2 cushion diamonds. One of them is a 1.20ct cushion with measurements of 5.95 x 5.49 x 3.84 mm while the other is a 1.01ct with measurements of 6.03 x 5.73 x 3.84 mm. The 1.20ct has a very thick - extremely thick girdle while the 1.01 has a slightly thick - extremely thick girdle.

Is the girdle something that possibly makes the 1.20ct one that much heavier? I find it strange that there is a 19 point difference between the 2 cushions, but the 1.20ct one has smaller dimensions. Does that mean that the 1.20ct one will appear smaller???

Yes the girdle is hiding weight, but there are other factors as well. We don't know how deep they are - deeper = smaller face up look. I'm sure experts will be along shortly to chime in. :)

The stone with the smallest dimensions will appear smaller, no matter what the carat weight. You're right -- that thick girdle is where some of those extra 19 points are hiding! Do you know the depth of the stones or do you have certificate numbers you could share?

GIA report numbers:

1 - 16833887
2 - 2116093496

Depth %:

1.20ct = 69.9%
1.01ct = 67%

The thing about the 1.20ct stone is that it's a cushion brilliant, which I haven't seen yet (I actually haven't been able to see the 1.20ct for myself yet either). The 1.20ct is about 2k more expensive also...

I saw the 1.01ct one and it actually looked very big next to one that was 1.12ct...
