I'm considering 2 diamonds, a 0.9 carat J,SI2, HCA 1.0, depth 61.3, table 56, crown 33.5, pavillion 41 (GIA 3x), i can not get an ideal scope for this diamond but could request a picture...vs this diamond https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-do-you-guys-think-of-this-diamond.189767/ (0.7 J SI1 hearts and arrows with good ideal scope and 1.4 HCA). As cool as it would be to have a good ideal scope I suspect most girls would rather have the 0.9? It has good specification anyways? What do you guys think?

-also, how bad is it to have the diamonds on the setting say g-h when your center diamond is J?

thanks!

I would definitely want to see actual images of the. 9 to determine if there is any visible inclusions or obvious leakage. As far as the setting goes, g/h will be fine if we are talking about tiny melee stones in a pave setting, but if you are considering something larger like a three stone for example then I would not consider putting g/h side by side with a J.

I actually ended up choosing a .77 over a .9/1 carat but I saw the difference in person. Have you asked her if given cut or quality choice, what would be the preference? Also I've heard a very well cut stone will look larger with a superior cut than next to another. But getting some more photos especially idealscopes/ASET of both will help with the light performance piece.

If you where doing a 3 stone or halo, I wouldn't put g/h next to a J. But if its just pave in a shank, I think it would be fine.

There might be some relevant J pictures in those threads. A superideal H&A stone, especially 1ct or under, can face up very white. But it won't always appear extremely white, and will always have tint from the side. Some people choose a halo setting that has a bezel. or some other setting that drops the stone lower or obscures the pavilion, to avoid seeing tint. But many people here have J or K H&A RBs and love them. If someone wants a "white" stone that is white all the time, then probably stop at H. Maybe I, but I own an I with strong blue fluor and after I hung around PS I learned how to look for tint. The I range is where most people can notice tint. Tiffany diamonds stop at I color.

Here's a .74 J in platinum next to a wedding band of G/H stones (lots of the other J's in those threads are much larger than 1ct so I picked something closer to the sizes you are looking at)

How about a .8? The large price jumps occur at .7 and .9.
