Been looking at some diamonds with these weights, I've read a bit around the net about these and the difference apparently being 'barely noticeable' would any of you agree or have pictures to back it up? My partner and I don't care about the diamond being exactly half a carat, however her last one was 0.5 but we had to return it... Would 0.42 be a really noticeable step down? The price difference is about 50% again from 0.42 to 0.5 (buying in the UK).

Note that I've upgraded the spec of the diamond since that was the issue last time (gia very good cut landed me in trouble with an extremely thin girdle exposed e ring setting).

I guess depending on the girdle thickness and ten other specs they could even be "the same size" when viewed from top. Do you know the length x width x depth? There lies your answer, since you said the mental ct size isn't a factor for you :))

as gwedy says, the size can be very similar depending on the shape of the diamond. Some 0.42 can look very similar to 0.5ct and some 0.5ct can look like a 0.42 depending on how the diamond is, shallow, deep etc. Best to look at the measurements on the reports to give you an idea and also can compare the size on **edited by moderator, no affiliate linked websites please**.com

Thanks for the replies, I'm only looking at round brilliant cuts. Here's an example of two stones I have looked at, a bit hard to imagine how different they would look in person though:

4.8 - 4.82 x 2.99 (0.42)

5.1 x 5.11 x 3.15 (0.5)

**edited by moderator, no affiliate linked websites please** says they both look their weight, so assuming this is similar for most the stones I look at - do you think this would be quite noticeable? Anyone got a similar difference in carat weight diamonds?

I've been looking but can't find the diamond size comparison tool that not only shows the difference in size, but shows diamonds on various finger sizes.
I'll keep looking or maybe someone will post it, hopefully.
This isn't what I was talking about, but maybe it will help...

at the bottom you can see on the finger the difference in size from the face.

Really useful thank you :), the pic is very cool thanks Jimmianne. Given me a lot to think about ^_^.

Hi Just Starting

Going from .42 up to .5 is an increase of almost 20%, and I can definitely see that difference - which I think is more obvious in real life than in photos. I'd go with the .5; I think it's a lovely size.

Thanks everyone :), considering the pictures and what you have said I think I'll go for 0.5 again as I don't want to be disappointed.
