“Platinume” instead of “platinum” hallmark on antique ring?

Hi all,

I’m stumped by a “platinume” stamp on the inside of a band (also engraved Aug 1924):

Is platinume the same as platinum? I did a quick search and platinume may be Romanian? But does not fit with the obviously non-Romanian “Aug” inscription.

Poor quality vendor photos:

“Platinume” also comes up as German, in which case “Aug” would fit.

Are there any other markings in the ring?

Thank you! Much better than when I used google translate lol.

Nope, just the date and platinume.

If it’s German, it’s likely that the band served as both a wedding ring and an engagement ring. It would have been worn on the left hand during the engagement, then moved to the right hand after the wedding - and the engraved date probably represents the date of the engagement, rather than the wedding.

I have been wondering, if those inscriptions in some „antique“ wedding rings might have been added later. Some sellers have loads of similar rings and many have similar inscriptions. Just a thought.

@Roselina Good point! May be true. Always good to have some reasonable doubt esp when it comes to a plethora of “antiques” peddled by one vendor.
