In Cairo there was Abdin Palace and Qasr Al-Qubba, and in Alexandria the grounds of Montazah Palace and Ras Al-Tin. These impressive structures, and their younger, more timid offshoots, mixed Moorish, Turkish, Italian and colonial architecture. And the city boasted acres of land, an expanse of space that is all but unimaginable today.

You are quite right about Garrads for QM crown, it was Queen Alexandra's that was made by Carringtons, but that QM's crown is silver etc is from "The Crown Jewels" by Anna Keay. A wonderful book on sale in at the Tower and Buckingham Palace. On another point, it has some amazing pictues, including the frame for Queen Adelaide's crown!
