    Fluorescence in D-E-F color Diamonds

I love fluorescence. Despite what almost every Aussie jeweller has said to me about fluorescent diamonds, any future diamond purchases I make will be aiming to have at least strong blue fluorescence. While I’m hoping @diagem and @Garry H (Cut Nut) are right, as a consumer I hope they are wrong –...

    ACA Premium

I just went down that rabbit hole and used RC to find a 2.5ct D VS1 for around $40k. This one showed up at With Clarity: https://www.withclarity.com/diamond/719403166?utm_source=rarecarat&utm_medium=cpc GIA report is as follows: What does the stone look like? Actual crown-pavilion angle...

    ACA Premium

@ALRAAA , there are a number of factors. Yes you do pay a premium for a branded super ideal, but that premium is nothing compared against purchasing a stone with similar colour clarity and carat combinations from one of the big jewellery houses. Now, with that out of the way, as with any...

    Environmental impact of synthetic diamonds

Even with coal, it depends on what type of coal you are burning. Brown coal/lignite is super bad. Other types of thermal coal are not as bad (and as an Aussie, we have some of the best quality and “less polluting” thermal coals in the global market relative to other sources worldwide).

Difference between Brian Gavin diamond and Whiteflash.

I look at the proportions on the OPs stones and to me they are right in the money for the range of proportions that BGD also has for their own stones. I am not a cutter like Mr Gavin is and I certainly don’t have the years of experience that he does. He may have noticed something in the scope...

Some PSers will defend their favorite vendors with their life..

I can understand JA’s business rationale for doing so even if I disagree with it. However they made life a lot more difficult for PS-ers to help others choose stones by removing report information from easy accessibility. If they at least put report details online sans report number, they’d be...

How to know if GIA XXX or AGS000

Likely angle combo on this stone is 33.6/33.7 for CA coupled with 40.75/40.8 for pavilion. This has got fairly good spread. Can the vendor provide you with any images of the stone as well as scope images?

Some PSers will defend their favorite vendors with their life..

Maybe. But I’m agnostic on vendors if I am helping someone on PS. I’ll go with whoever has the right stone regardless of vendor at the right price.

How to know if GIA XXX or AGS000

If you are talking about AGS 0 Ideal on proportions, then this one likely is that and GIA XXX. However, if you want to know whether it scores AGS000 for light performance, symmetry and polish (which results in an AGS0 cut grade based on light performance), that is something that you cannot...

    Choosing between 2 (HCA0.8 and HCA1.7)

I think I can notice them in the vid (see my markups to a pic of the I SI1) Center has the crystal (which may not be located there but could be a refection). Out near the girdle on the left, I think that could be the feather. Maybe. I think at normal eye clean viewing distances, it should be...

Announcement PriceScope GTG 2019 in Carlsbad, CA

As much as I’d love to attend, I have other more pressing priorities (i.e. work is really busy at the moment so I can’t take any time off and my wife would kill me as we’re in a season of life where we’re down to one income currently and if I were to go off for some time and leave her to look...

Choosing a Radiant 'in real life'

I think AGS does light performance grading on radiants which would be of use to folks who want the best performing radiant cut. I distinctly remember seeing an AGS grading report online for a radiant a while back. Unless I got it confused with a cushion or princess.

    Shallower Crown - .9 HCA

There is another stone in another thread (the recent HRD stone) I tried to use in your analyser and for over 30 mins on my phone I double and triple checked the inputs. Until I realised your final comment on the page which indicated that if no results occurred it may have been due to other...

    Help Please - Imminent Proposal

Further to the above, when the Jann Paul rep states in the video that the GIA report uses average figures, it goes beyond that: GIA averages figures of key proportions (Crown and Pavilion angles, Star facet, lower girdle percentage) and then rounds them (crown angle to the nearest 0.5 degree...

Difference between Brian Gavin diamond and Whiteflash.

Potentially that may be so. Brian also has his own business reputation to consider and he has high standards for cut quality. But keep in mind, the OP has a stone in mind at BGD she wants to purchase because WF currently doesn’t have inventory that meets what she is looking for. So it’s a fair...

    Help Please - Imminent Proposal

And of those comments, two are from @Garry H (Cut Nut) Garry’s comments about the stones used by JannPaul in the video are very relevant. We never advocate the use of HCA as a tool to choose a diamond. It is only supposed to be used to weed out stones that will likely not have good light...

Ikuma diamond ‘ideal cut princess’ ... found browsing BN & interesting tidbit

Ikuma diamond ‘ideal cut princess’ ... found browsing BN & interesting tidbit

Interesting. No light performance grade on this stone given how old it is. Must be that all of the newer stones must receive AGS 0 for light performance. Does look somewhat pretty.

    Which ASET image is better?

Number 1 looks like the winner by an edge in my books but I’d want to see videos and images of both stones to double check. Number 2 has lots of contrast in the centre on a static face up view which could be different as the stone tilts and moves around. Both ASETs are great though.
  29. bmfang

    Choosing between 2 (HCA0.8 and HCA1.7)

If you sell a stone on the secondary market, I would expect to only get back between 40-60% of retail price (but it’s a crapshoot). With vendors that have buy back policies, they could give you back 70-80%. Upgrade however is where the magic happens. Some vendors say we give you 100% of the...

Looking at HRD graded 2.09 Round diamond - thoughts?

GIA stone has cavities crown and pavilion side, that rules it out for me. But the HRD stone, it’s a SI2 but they only plot two big clouds pavilion side? Wow. Now I want to see the actual report for myself.
