What are you wearing today?! Show me your CS!

Wore my mahenge spinel to the bank today. Love how it looks under their fluorescent lighting. You can see how it looks next to a pale pink spinel.

What to do with this sunstone?

I have a catseye sunstone with schiller, and it blends into my skin. It’s a cool phenomenon stone, but that color disappears on me. Looking forward to your designs.

Oh dear, no wonder why I’ve bern binge watching “The Crown” on Netflix! Lol!

What to do with this sunstone?

It might blend into your skin (depending on your skin color) if you wear it as a pendant against skin, so that’s something to consider. You could halo it so that the stone stands out more.

@strawrose, thank you for the suggestion, but I would never do a purse, and even if I did, who would set the gems on a purse? @voce, I agree.

The giant rings thread... for lovers of big CS rings

@lucida818, The setting is very nice, maybe you can use it for a flatter cabochon. I’d be afraid to wear such a high domed round ball like stone in a ring. You could also convert it to a pendant.

Australian Amethyst Reset by Daniel M

I really liked the original setting, but I suppose you’ll be able to use stacking bands with the new setting. Nice amethyst! At least you can enjoy it the way you want.

The giant rings thread... for lovers of big CS rings

I’m not sure what you consider a honker, but here are some of my largest rings/stones. 13 carat Zambian amethyst over a bridge of amethyst. My 14x10mm opal cabochon ring (bottom) with a Levian opal honker I was looking at and tried on at the jewelry store (top ring not mine). My 14 carat...

Big, glowy and included tsavorite... To buy or not?

The bluish green minty ones can be glowy. They look like pale emerald or green paraiba.

I forgot to answer your question here. I will wear it everyday for months, and then store it at the bank vault for months. I do that a lot with some of my favorites! Thank you for the kind words!!

Somebody's gotta buy this stone, "If I won the lottery" edition

I wouldn’t say anything from Leibish is a “good buy.” They are incredibly well versed in colored diamonds, and if it’s that price, there’s a reason. The good thing about Leibish though is that they’re trustworthy, they obtain GIA reports mostly for their FCD’s or upon request I believe, and...

Various gems I’m debating on setting

Good points! That’s why I do bypass rings. I think it works better with two large stones, and I am a tall woman with large fingers. Of course in a solitaire, I wouldn’t be adverse to wearing the “Star of Africa” as a ring stone!! Lol! Liz Taylor and Liberace were very tacky jewelry...

Various gems I’m debating on setting

@Sunstorm, You and I both have a thing for emeralds! I have an emerald problem too! It was the very first gem I saw in a book as a child, and then I saw Liz Taylor’s famous emerald suite, and I was hooked. If they weren’t so dang expensive, I’d probably be up to my neck swimming in emeralds!!!

@CSpan, thanks again! The amazing thing about benitoite is that it doesn’t sparkle like a regular gem, but looks like little laser beams are coming out of it. I don’t know why, but it’s a fascinating gem, albeit a bit soft. The orange spinel is indeed a sparkler and large. Some people...

    What makes this stone 20k?

I suppose 4K per carat Is really due to the size, color saturation, cut (round sapphires typically waste a lot of rough). I mean you’re getting a stone that looks like a Tanzanite, but far more durable. Sapphires are also highly prized due to their durability, which is often overlooked when...

Various gems I’m debating on setting

@icy_jade, Thank you for the suggestions. I am considering a multistone or bypass ring. I did the same thing with my FCDs. I had way too many and I wanted to enjoy them all at once, hence the band ring my jeweler created for me. The problem with colored stones however is that you really need...

Padparadscha Hunt November 2019 for e-ring

Doesn’t Yvonne Raley on Etsy also source padparadcha for people? She had a reputable source she uses I believe. If ordering from very far away location, Just know that it might be a little more difficult to return.

    about this Ruby i have.

GRS and SSEF, which I believe are both based in Switzerland.

    What makes this stone 20k?

It’s probably untreated ( is it? ). I agree with the other factors people mentioned, but untreated corundum sells fur a much larger premium than treated material if all else is the same.

@elle_71125 - it has strong red fluor, which helps!! Thanks!!

Various gems I’m debating on setting

@icy_jade, I apologize for not responding to your question sooner. The stones I feel would plug the gap are the demantoid and the orange spinel (which reminds me of a padparadcha), silver spinel and green zircon. I can set more than one gem at this time, and I’m leaning toward a certain gem...

@elle_71125, Thank you. The Burmese pink is around 1.8 carats and is an 8x6 or so. It is bottom heavy. Here it is temporarily mounted in a setting with mounting wax so I could see it in the sun. The picture at the top of this forum is in incandescent light. My finger was suffering from...

Various gems I’m debating on setting

@Sunstorm, Yes, that’s true. I also go off the rails, and I end up buying many of the same gem when I am in the mood for that gem. I have more moonstones and opals I need to set as well. Speaking of the pink diamond you mentioned, I have an FCD multi stone ring, and those two diamonds were...

Various gems I’m debating on setting

For the record, the Burmese pink isn’t the same gem as the other pink oval. The other pink oval is paler, but more bubblegum pink. The Burmese pink is a hotter watermelon pink.
