Old Euro looking for input please!

I mean, at the end of the day we are looking at a picture and you are seeing it in person, and you know your gf's priorities. Inform your eyes by looking at lots of diamonds in person, then make your selection knowing all your criteria and the limitations you face (i.e. location, available...

Old Euro looking for input please!

Looks like fish eye to me. You GF may need some education about the importance of cut quality so that she can understand why a very shallow diamond like this can/will look lifeless. And then what is the point??

    Marble countertops etched

Rub lemons over the whole surface so the whole thing is etched, then it will match and you won't have to baby it anymore ;-)

Looking for Examples of MRB in Cushion Bezel (true or faux)

I love that three stone rendering you did. It looks amazing, I personally like the prong/faux bezel thing because it allows you to see the whole diamond, nestled in its little protective "well". I suspect with that kind of setting the "lip" of the bezel can be a little shorter than the lip on a...

Feeling gloomy - advice about where to get ring made

Could still be worth shelling out for a moissanite. OP could always sell it to recoup some costs -- there are a few Aussie PSers who might be happy to have it.

Feeling gloomy - advice about where to get ring made

Doesn’t Jn make AVCs out of CZ? I know the optics aren’t identical, but it could be helpful :read:

Feeling gloomy - advice about where to get ring made

naaah... those jewelers don't know much. it's true that a chunky antique style cushion doesn't have the same optics as an MRB or a modern cushion like the example they sent. but if you want a chunky cushion, the diamond they suggested ain't it. I have had an MRB, AVC, and many many old cuts in...

Feeling gloomy - advice about where to get ring made

In the interest of setting realistic expectations, your inspiration images are all by vendors who are more expensive than your budget. So you might not get quite the same delicacy and detail in your budget. The inspiration images all have prongs that are hand finished in a way that takes...

    Opinions on this antique cushion?

I don't think you should dismiss the first JA stone. That kind of imagery is not very helpful for assessing this kind of diamond. I bet a lot of the most beloved antique cushions on PS would look crappy at that angle and in that lighting! Antique cushions are among the rarest of old cuts. So...

    Dreamer's Reset - Project Thread

Thanks @mrs-b , I feel the same way about your delicious three stone of course. The center diamond is a 1.89ct Early Ideal Cut (circa 1920s) and it is a K/L color and likely SI1/Si2. I don't have a lab report. I bought the diamond on Ebay in 2012! The diamond is 8.0mm in diameter. The side...

:P2:evil2::clap::devil::dance::lol-2::mrgreen2::cool2: [my 8 yo son saw your kitty ring holder and said, "Can I post some emoji's? 'Cuz I like it." So those are from him!]

Antique ring help: loose stones, thin metalwork

I love it and I think it is well worth every penny. The diamond is perfection and the setting looks authentic. Don’t for one second think you “overpaid” compared to some imaginary alternative that doesn’t even exist!

Help setting an O colored 1.59ct AVC diamond

I think you should do a colored gemstone halo. Given the rest of your collection, I think adding some color is the only way it will get worn!

Do you size your rings for your ring finger or other fingers?!

Just more forward. If the stone is damaged, you can replace it with something else so the settng is not a waste. I know that possibility sucks, but its a low probability outcome and simply a risk you must take. Have you asked them if you can pay THEM to insure it on their own policy?

Do you size your rings for your ring finger or other fingers?!

Perhaps consider putting sizing beads in it that could be removed when your finger size increases? (I say "when" bc it is a virtual certainty, on of few such outcomes in life!)... though I dont know if that is any less invasive than a full resize.

    Help me pick a setting

I like option 3, but I would ask your jeweler to order the ring with a plain shank rather than modifying after it is cast.

Earrings again, WF ACA vs AGS000

Your wife couldn't tell the difference! She guessed right 50% of the time, which is chance when given two options. So you spent a fair bit of money to quell your anxiety. That's a pretty risky/costly way to self-sooth in the long run. But look, I'm not trying to start anything here. You don't...

Is my setting uneven? Need more opinions!

Hmmm. Curiouser and curiouser. So $2k CAN is about $1500 USD, which seems low to me.. So it would surprise me if it is truly a custom piece (i.e., cast to your diamond specifications) rather than a stock setting that is ordered in the size that most closely fits your stone. It also would not...

Is my setting uneven? Need more opinions!

I think you should stop taking pictures of the ring and *only* look at it with your eyes =)2 Kind, uncritical eyes. Rfisher hit the nail on the head in terms of your diamond vs. the proportions of the stock setting. Sure, it isn't a perfect fit. But it cost less and was a much easier process to...

Calling WF Butterflies Owners Present & Past

Hmmm... well from a design standpoint I think trellis designs are inherently delicate and fluid, so not sure about trying to make it something it's not... I like the way D&T is headed with her ring in terms of creating a "sturdy" ring that is still open from the side view.

Calling WF Butterflies Owners Present & Past

I totally get where you are coming from regarding the side stone prongs rubbing on your adjacent fingers. My ring size is very large so I don't have to worry about that :geek2:

Calling WF Butterflies Owners Present & Past

And I want to add that having worn both a bezel and three-stone with lots or prongs, I very much prefer the open and airy and delicate look of the three stone. The trade-off is totally worth it. And I think something of the delicacy is lost with the bezels on the outer stones. Also concerned...

Calling WF Butterflies Owners Present & Past

Those aren't the prongs you have to worry about anyway. They are super tiny and bc they are tucked lower than the center, I find my side stones never catch on anything (and I have 6 prong on my sides!). The center stone is the one that touches things.
