Hello from Singapore. My first post on this forum as I would like to seek advice from the experts.

I am beginning to search for an engagement ring diamond and after reading online resources and chatting with a local jeweller, I have narrowed down to the following specifications: Emerald cut (her requirement!) / 1.0 - 1.2ct / G and better / VS1 and better / 1.40 - 1.50 LW ratio / 61 - 67 table & depth / Excellent and better polish & symmetry / thin to slightly thick girdle. Targeting modest budget of up to US$4,350 if possible. Setting will likely be pave 4-prong; undecided between 18k white gold or platinum.

Have shortlisted one from WF: https://lotviewer.feedcenter.net/Default.aspx?VendorID=9&ClientRowID=367899

I would like to ask if the above specifications, budget, and shortlist make sense. Greatly appreciate any advice! :)

I find this type of lightibg environment & video very difficult to read - there is no brilliance to be seen.

The requirements seem reasonable & could be relaxed somewhat for a beautiful stone. The most restrictive requirement is the L/W>1.4 & the 67% depth is somewhat low among step cuts - more so for long ones since the depth % is calculated against the (relatively narrow) width.

How about:

- picked for brighteness, play of light & size for weight. There were runners-up.

I am simply used to the Blue Nile interface... The same stone may well be listed by other sellers at slightly different prices, and acessible to ones that do not list it too.

AV thanks for the insight!

What would be the suggested depth? I had gathered up to 67% table and depth based on recommendations from numerous articles I've read - e.g. https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/emerald-cut-diamond; or https://www.diamonds.pro/education/emerald-cut/

On the suggested diamond, my worry is its polish and symmetry being VG and G respectively. How should I understand these?

I've also found this these:

ECs are so difficult to shop for!

I agree with AV_ that the differing lighting environments in the different vendors' videos can make things difficult to assess - too bright and you are blinded by white light return and sparkle, too 'flat' and the stone does not have any 'life'.

On that basis, I am not personally too keen on the Adiamor stone - it doesn't seem to have much 'life' as it rotates, although that could be the lighting.

The 1.02 Blue Nile stone looks okay but isn't jumping out at me - it works pretty well and doesn't seem to be at all 'leaky', but it is quite dark with contrast head-on and, for me, the inclusion in the table might catch my eye. But then again, my personal taste is not your personal taste :) and not everyone is a clarity-freak like me

The 1.01 Blue Nile stone looks good to my eyes - active at all angles, the narrow ends are working well, it does not really 'window' (go see-through) when tilted/rotated, and it only has one small inclusion visible within the table. It says it is not available - do you have it Reserved?

I like this one the best of all the suggestions. Not an EC expert but I think it's the most lively and has the least "black out" effect where all the facets look dark at the same time

Thanks for sharing. I had thought brightness alone is a good measure but realise now to scrutinise and rotate the views.

How about the following?
