Pulled the trigger already, Impulse shopping :) :lol-2:

I wanted a second E-ring in yellow gold. I am fine with a warm diamond, wanted a decent cut, lots of fire and, of course, as much diamond as I could buy for 2,500.00 (yeah, tiny budget, but there are always upgrades!).

For a few days, this has been a personal challenge and hobby activity. I have burned a hole in the HCA analysis tool. I have an account at a certain vendor and found this diamond this morning. While not perfect, I thought this was an okay compromise to the mission. But...was I right? I had it set in a plat tiffany head and yellow gold.

In recap, the goal was as much real estate as possible, with decent clarity and decent cut and nice fire and a super tight budget. I am happy with the strong fluorescence as long as it doesn't turn cloudy in the sun - I will return for that.

Feedback welcome! Thanks in advance, (or in hindsight). It's not too late to change my mind - yet.

GIA Cert 5201316023
HCA 1.6, AGA total grade 2B
1.01 ct RB

L color (I like low alphabet colors)
Depth 58.9 ....a little "spread".

Crown 32.5
Pavillion 41

Did you get any pictures/videos/advanced images? I worry whenever table is bigger than depth.

Edit. What is the vendor and what is their upgrade policy?

Hi Love, it's from Ritani. I have 30 days to evaluate. I did talk with their gemologist about the diamond, and she thought it was decent.

To be clear, you decided you want size over all else? And a decent diamond? Is that right? And this is you buying for you?

Yes, priority on size, eye clean, & fire. I am fine with L.

It would be the wrong forum, but are you open to an MMD? I ask because you could stretch the budget that way with a stone that may be nicer cut.

To be clear, I am not saying the stone is bad either, but just throwing an idea out there.

I thought about an MMD, but my brain is just not accepting it at this point. I agree it would be a good alternative if I was more open to MMD. I also considered alternatives, but in the end decided I can see the difference in "other" non-MMD alternatives (or my brain thinks I can). Something about "mind-clean" on that one.

I really don't mind an "almost great" stone. I just want to make sure I didn't pick something outside of reasonable.

By the way, thanks for that idea, it's a good one.

I think if they have a good return policy, get it and see how you like it.

That's a reasonable answer. I am not in any danger of being "stuck" if I don't like it.

Yeah, if their return policy is good then seeing it doesn't really cost anything.

I'm not sure what impulse shopping is. What is this "impulse shopping" you speak of?!?:lol::lol:

Bwahahaha. The plan WAS to wait until next year. Then I started "hunting". Once I am on the hunt, I am in tunnel vision to complete a task. Glad hubby just laughs at me. He is the exact same way with different toys.

I recently bought a "K" color 1.15 ct diamond (with nice cut stats but not a super ideal) through Four Mine and it cost about 4k, so a 1+ ct for under 2500 is a low price - you are looking for a "zebra' among horses for sure. The one you picked may not be a firebomb but it will hopefully have some sparkle and hopefully it will be pretty and a good price to boot.

If you are considering alternatives did you look at this stone? HCA 0.6, a little smaller though.

Hi Lydial,
You are right on that score. A mined 1 ct diamond for 2500 at retail is going/possibly going to have some "issues". I'm not looking for a Grace Kelly diamond, but hoping to avoid the 3 Stooges. I breezed by the stones without pictures. Actually, my other contenders were:

https://www.ritani.com/diamonds/wishListItem/4396452
and
https://www.ritani.com/diamonds/wishListItem/3568172

Both had decent HCA scores.
I wish my budget would have been ready for the more expensive diamond, but I figure in a year or so I will make a more considered upgrade, and the more I spend now, the more I will have to spend later. The .7 was lovely, but I was greedy for size. I showed it to hubby and he chuckled and said I would be pouting for .9 or larger. That man knows me too well.

Well, when the right thing comes along, you have to pounce. I'm a serial pouncer.
Eu Tu? Ha. jewelry is my weakness. I have long thought I would be so happy selling jewelry. There is not really a suitable place nearby, but if!....who am I kidding, I would be a raven of disaster.

GIA XXX 0.9 K SI1 @ $2,326

https://www.withclarity.com/diamond/6332279579?utm_source=rarecarat&utm_medium=cpc

Available at two different places. Yadav has the cheap price. No clarity plot on the GIA cert, but the video on WithClarity reveals a scar on the table. It's zoomed so it looks worse than it probably is. Still, you need to verify it's eye clean.

Promising proportions: 56 table, 61.2 depth, 34 crown, 40.8 pavilion & 75 LGF. HCA score of 0.9.

Measures at 6.22 x 6.23, which is slightly smaller than the 1.01 you already purchased with the 61 table. That will be hard to beat size wise. Big table, shallow depth and shallow crowns tend to offer more spread and white light return. Stones cut for more rainbow light (fire) have different proportions but won't have quite as large a spread.

I like this stone. Agree on the flaw on the table. If the 1.01 doesn't look reasonably decent in videos and further photos. I do admit I like the spread if the 1.01 looks reasonable.

chrome-capture (5).png actually, it was a 2a. I can't read and put in the pavillion degree, not percent.

I'm not a fan of large table on a flat crown. I have never seen a flat top diamond with ex fire.

My regular e-ring (old mine cushion) has a tiny 52% top. It's a fireball in low light.

The HCA advised it (the new diamond) had excellent fire, but took a hit on the scintillation and light return. I am really curious to see how it performs. I don't think it's going to be a complete Frankenstone with the HCA, but I'm not sure.

I have learned on this thread that a smaller table may have been a much better choice.

Take a look, play around with it and if you don't like the stone you can return it.

My two cents with an L diamond (I love L diamonds!!!!), is that the head should be yellow or rose gold depending on if the stone has yellow or brown undertones. My warm diamonds look so much better outside of a platinum head.

Can you post pics? I’d love to see your warm stones in yellow or rose gold heads.

I would love to see your settings, Gear Girly. Thanks MK for asking, I was a little slow!
