I am in the market for a diamond within the 2 - 2.2ct range. I have found three diamonds that fall in my range. Can I can your opinion on this three diamonds cuts. All are similar color and clarity, so i am just focused on the cut. I like number 2 but drown off that it is an odd ct weight and scared that it might be too shallow and have obstruction issues.

Thank you in advance

I probably would not buy either one. If you are using the HCA, you need to know that we normally don't recommend scores over 2.0 (or just slightly over sometimes). The second stone doesn't have a very complimentary pavilion angle. A low crown angle (between 34 and 35) is best paired with a pav angle on the high end of 40.6-40.9. I'd have to see magnified images and an ASET on the second stone.

Thanks for the input. Just learning about Diamonds as i am finally in the market. It is confusing, I found another diamond that proportions seem bad but scores a HCA 1.9.

Well, that's an interesting one! Very shallow and low crown, not what I would recommend.

To make this easier, I will tell you that a small proportion of the GIA excellent cut range falls into what corresponds to AGS ideal cut. Here are the measurements we usually recommend.

table: 54-57 (or maybe 58)

Depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0 (can be up to 35.5 with a 40.6 pavilion angle)

Pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9

The 1st option is an obvious no with that HCA score.

It would be nice if you could get some images of the 2nd option.

On the 3rd option, the one that got a 1.9 on the HCA, even if it were a good performer, what will that look like with such a large table (62%)??? So, as example, my current stone is also 2.01 cts. and, while mine is cut deeper than rigid ideal specs would allow (rounded up to 63%), it measures 8.01mm... the stone in question measures 8.26mm!!! That large table and low crown is just an ugly flat-top IMO. I had a diamond previously with a 61% table and it was just too large and flat... and that still had a 14% crown height so not as shallow as this stone in question. It would be a no for me.

Absolutely no to #1 and #3. I don't know how #3 scored well on the HCA, but it's WAY out of our recommended ranges. Stick with stones with the recommended depth, table, crown, and pav angles AND which score under 2 on the HCA.

#2 is a maybe but I'd want advanced images.
