Gemstone and diamond tattoo pics?

Hi all!!

As many of u, we love our bling!

In order to honor my love for such things, I would like to get a tattoo of a gemstone or diamond.

Have any of you seen some well executed pics of such tattoos? I am looking to collect some inspiring photos and then my next step is to find a skilled tattoo artist (in my area) who can do it.

I've been wondering about a tattoo for years but can never find something I love and might not get bored with over time

I also worry about the edges getting 'soft' due to spreading/diffusing with age, but I believe modern inks are a lot better than they used to be!

I would be interested to see what you find

I don't know how these tattoos age. That would be my hesitation. However, if the best person for the tattoo was in Russia, you can bet that I would make that trip. It's a permanent body modification. I don't know how these tattoos age. That would be my hesitation. However, if the best person for the tattoo was in Russia, you can bet that I would make that trip. It's a permanent body modification. It's totally worth the expense and inconvenience. It's also worth being on a wait list. Never get a tattoo without considering everything.

Lyra, I agree (partially). Personally, I find it too much of an inconvenience to go to Russia just for a tattoo.
However, I agree with being on a wait list and being extra picky about the artist.

As to wondering how the tattoo will age...meh...the rest of my body and face will age with it so I figure if I have always wanted a certain tattoo, I would go for it! (I just completed a full sleeve on my left arm).

For now, I am super anal about slathering strong sunscreen over it for protection.

I got my first tattoo a few months ago and I love it! Makes me smile everytime I see it and I feel more "me" for having it. When people ask me about the aging etc I always tell them that I have all sorts of permanent marks on my body that are scars from various accidents, and they were totally unintentional and they don't bother me at all. So I doubt my tattoo will bother me even if over time it doesn't look as sharp as it does now.

I've always wanted a tattoo but could not commit to anything for the longest time. I finally got a peony flower on my rib this past summer and have no regrets. I think when you know it's right you will feel it... as with most things in life. Do it for yourself and no one else. If it makes you happy then that's all that matters. I do however echo the importance of finding an artist whose work match your style & expectation. There are millions of bad tattooists out there... but only a handful of true artists.

I feel ya @fiona00004. if I get a second tattoo, the guy I love is in New Zealand with a crazy waiting list and I'm sure $$$$.

As far as I’m hearing from friends, modern tattoos age relatively well. I would be very careful about picking an artist, especially for something like gemstones. I think it would be easy for it to look really bad if it’s not done well.

I really don’t understand people who just randomly get tattooed on a whim. There’s a local woman who’s goal is to tattoo her entire body. She’s trying to get donations to help pay for it and asking for free work. It really really shows. There are a few local artists with year + waiting lists and high fees. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them. It’s permanent so please do your research!

I had my only one done when I turned 40. I had always wanted something to honour my late father, who will have been gone for 18 years this coming Saturday, but also something to represent my 2 daughters. I had racked my brains for a couple of years up to this point with no luck. Then one day it struck me: my girls names start with an L and a H, which were my fathers' initials. He had the most wonderful scripture type handwriting & I still had a couple of his signatures around on various things. He used to initial many documents for work, so it's a very synonymous symbol. I booked in with a tattoo artist who specialises in writing & scroll work. The wait was a long 6 months, but she was worth it. You definitely need the right person for your design.

So on the inside of my left wrist, usually hidden under my watch, are my fathers' initials lifted from his signature, representing both him & my precious girls. It has aged really well for its 5 years. It was done in black & has lost some of that darkness, lifting to a very, very dark ink / navy, and it's slightly less sharp, but hasn't really bled. I love it. And whenever somebody happens to spot it, as a teacher did at work this last week, they always yell, "my goodness, you have a tattoo!" I guess I look a bit too stiffy to be THAT cool

I thought about getting the constellation for Cancer (July birthday) tattoo’d on my foot with diamonds or gemstones in place of the stars, but realized it’d be too tiny to make out the gemstones, and really didn’t want anything huge. Think I started a thread about it a year or so ago.

Decades ago I worked in a bank when the first ATMs came out. Back in those days you were given a card and a PIN together (no choosing your own). A guy came in and told me he’d lost his ATM card, “no worries, here’s a new card and PIN”.
Showing me a tattoo of 4 digits on the inside of his upper arm, he says “but I need to have this PIN”.
Sorry but the ATM cards come with their own specific PIN so maybe put a line through that one and put the new digits underneath!”.

Well, in an epic display of toxic masculinity, and just after offering another PSr a one-way ticket to North Korea, he decided to trot out that he had close to a hundred firearms and then made one of them--an assault rifle--his avatar. It was the oddest flex, and he actually flounced before he was pretty much immediately banned. For reasons unknown, he had come back to PS after quite a long break and his first posts were him jumping into political threads and essentially stirring shit up with some weird conservative chip on his shoulder. (Woe is me, everyone here hates conservatives, you guys are all a bunch of Trump haterz, I hope things have changed). Several of us took the bait and he ran with it. You know, the usual internet drama, plus some gun threats. It was all very incel of him.

I am considering getting a tattoo and have been thinking along these lines - I like that it is more private, more 'just for you' because only you know it is there, but also easily visible if you want to look at it (rather than being somewhere inaccessible and under clothing, like your back, lol).

It's the perfect place, certainly for me anyway. It's almost small enough to be hidden if needs be, but as you say, I always know it's there & it always makes me smile. What are you thinking of getting done?

I really can't decide

I like geometric designs that are very bold and simple and which don't 'imply' anything, but that's a general comment rather than this specific case, which I think would be a struggle to find anything suitable in that style because it would have to be so small/narrow.

In terms of what I would want for under a watch/strap, then... I have previously thought about a poem that reminds me of my gran, going round and round in tiny lettering, but I'm aware it may well bleed the edges into an unreadable, splodgy mess in a few years

I'm therefore thinking about perhaps something small and floral, with a butterfly, the fact I am male be damned - it would be a memorial piece for a recent life event so I don't care what others would think!

I think whatever you choose should be very personal & meaningful, otherwise there is the danger of getting bored & not liking it after a while, like you say. I know there is now a process to remove them, but I don't see the point of having one done knowing one day it can be erased. They should be permanent & forever.

Why don't you make a list of all the really life changing things that have happened to you, and work out what you would like to commemorate? Then sit with a VERY good artist to come up with some design options?.
