Hello, i have a Tie Pin or Lapel Pin, It is marked 9. 375 with the Anchor for Birmingham and the Letter O for 1963-1964

I have tried researching but have found nothing for this exact piece. I really would like to know what the Head is from? as it is quite a unique piece for me.I possibly thought it was The Flash old style but nothing came up when researching.

I have attached some pictures.

My guess is that it's Hermes, Greek god of speed.

Can you make out the hallmark above the “9. 375 etc”?
That is the makers mark. Being English manufacture you should be able to ID the maker if you can make out the initials / symbol of that top hallmark.

Hi, i cant see a Hallmark above the 9.375, it just looks blank. I have however spotted some more markings on the bar itself. I have tried to take pictures as the best i can. I really can't make out the marking on my magnifying piece as the marking is that small but it may be the maker's hallmark is there. 20190619_144702.jpg 20190619_144752.jpg 20190619_145016.jpg

That's a tough one. Maybe your local library has some research books you could reference. In any case, good luck!

The top mark is a castle, denoting the Assay office in Edinburgh.
Looks like it was made in 1919.

The office holds an image of every maker that submitted gold to be assayed, and they can help you determine the company that crafted it.

The motif seems likely to be Mercury, messenger of the gods? As such it may be the symbol of radio operators, or in fact the Royal Mail train service which was famous for its speed. Good luck!

Hi there, that's interesting information. I can't seem to see the Castle that you are mentioning. I only see the Anchor which is for Birmingham and a Slanted O which is the year 1964. I think i may send a message to the Birmingham Assay Office and see if the could help me identify what this is called.

Maybe my eyes are failing? It wouldn’t be the first time!
