I love the pendant. The Evenstar from Lord of the Rings. I haven't watched those movies in forever.

I love seeing everyone's hauls. I get a vicarious thrill

I have a curious question for all you vintage lovers (like me!). I buy lots of used/consignment/vintage/estate finds and jewelry. I love them all. Anyhow, I see a psychic/spiritual consultant (occasionally for fun) who says that I should sprinkle every pre-owned item with blessed salt or blessed water and give it 24 hours before wearing or using it. She also recommends putting jewelry in the sun to absorb its good energy(?) for a day or two. I try to do that but have been known to wear a jewelry purchase as soon as I open the package. :) I was just wondering if anyone does these things or has had any weird happenings possibly related to a new item or piece of jewelry? Thanks for indulging me!

I don't do anything to pieces I buy. Only once have I had a ring I thought was bad luck and I sold it.

You can also "cleanse" pieces using the moonlight, I think I read somewhere you have to bury the item though.

I don't do this at all.
I wear my jewelry right away! I can't say that I've ever had any bad luck associated with jewelry.

Haha,! Ok, I have pics!
I found a Van Briggle "Lotus" bowl at an estate sale.
Also, an "Old Ivory" salad plate, by Hermann Ohme, from about 1920.
And the kicker, 3 cool vintage pipes! The brand is Medico, and they are unsmoked. The one has sterling embellishment. All 3 for $3.00.
No, I'm not taking up pipe smoking! I'm gonna put them in my booth at the antique mall. The sterling one might get me a few dollars!

I just got back from some yard sales.
These are some highlights.

Three 14k rings. I paid $3 for the rose ring and $20 for the bridal set with the tiniest diamond! But the combined gold weight is 5.45 grams, so I'm ok with it! It's interesting as a vintage set. Some of these 1940's sets were pretty light on the diamonds.

Well, the diamonds are seriously crappy in size, but I do like the vintage style.
I might wear it a time or two just for fun!

The lady said she wanted to get rid of it because it brought back bad memories...
Do you think it has bad juju? I will put it out in the moonlight later tonight.
But seriously, I was just happy to get 3 gold rings for 23 bucks!
Bad luck, shmadluck!
BTW, this yard sale was 5 houses down the street from me. Maybe she'll come back for it one day!

I talked my fiance into driving me to a promising estate sale about an hour away in the stormy weather!

There was so much beautiful silverware and serving ware. I didnt bring any home with me though, as we are hoping to move maybe early next year.

I bit the bullet on this little jingling ball because it was just too adorable. I later looked up some information, turns out they are called Harmony Balls and hand made out of sterling silver in Bali and used in meditation and by expectant mothers as it is said that the jingling noise soothes unborn babies. True or not, it's pretty neat!

Two little porcelain chicks that I did not need but really wanted. $5 for both. 20190518_165604.jpg
And my last buy is by far the one I'm happiest with. A blue topaz heart ring circa 1920s/30s and 10k gold according to the liquidator. It didnt sound like he was too sure of what he was saying, so if anyone else has clues or impressions about this ring, I'd love to hear it! It set me back about $200+tax.

@stracci2000 I am certainly not going to tell you to leave it outside or bury it for cleansing, coming from me who lost a ring outside would probably not be sound advice ;)2

@Rubymal what great (and adorable finds) the heart ring is very sweet, it could be an aqua maybe.

This ring is so pretty! I love the hearts and milgrain!
We were just discussing @CHRISTY-DANIELLE 's new heart shaped topaz ring!
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/for-fun-do-you-think-this-is-really-an-aqua.248716/

I'm gonna say that I don't think it is 20s-30s. More like 70s.
I say this because blue topaz became super popular in the 70's and 80's, but I had never seen much of it before that. So I was reading geology.com, and they have a good article about blue topaz, becoming plentiful in the early 70s.
https://geology.com/gemstones/blue-topaz/

I also love the chicks and jingle ball. Sometimes you just gotta have it!
I think I need a heart shaped topaz ring, too. Everybody has one but me!

Here are my vintage/antique thriftstore finds lately!
Excluding my 3 stone OMC ring thats on its way that ive already made a thread about and some new gemstones!

A gold filled locket shaped as a book. It has flower engravings on both sides and looks beautiful on the neckline. I filled it with some small dried flowers that my daughter gave to me 2 years ago when she was 2 years old. $5.99
20190525_110038.jpg 20190525_110045.jpg 20190525_110122.jpg

These super lightweight chandelier earrings with lapis colored blue glass tear drops. Oddly they are some of the lightest earrings I own! Not sure of the metal, nickel maybe? They make a huge impact and sound like delightful windchimes .99 cents
20190525_111943.jpg

Now my vintage/antique eBay finds!

A old honey bee stick pin with 6 natural seed pearls. It has fabulous detail. I will definetely turn it into a ring after the summer is over! $99 even
s-l400 (33).jpg

A lucky find, a montana agate in 10k white gold. Purchased for $20 total! That was my deal of the week. Its a perfect pinky ring for me or a middle finger ring for my daughter at US 3.25
The woman selling had it listed as a tigers eye. She was super kind though!

@TheGarnetGirl --great finds!!!
I love the book locket. I've been hunting for a gold locket for a while now.
There are lots of lockets on Ebay, but I still haven't seen "the one" yet.

And that agate ring:love:......so fab!
I have been eyeballing them for a while, as well, but have not seen a gold one for that price....and it's "tiger eye" too..
Doesn't that freak you out? When someone has NO CLUE what a stone is so they just guess? But it can work to our advantage in many cases!
I have a small collection of vintage agate jewelry, and I just love the stuff.
Groovy earrings, and the bee stick pin is super sweet, too!

I was at a yard sale yesterday, and it was jewelry heaven.
There was a table with boxes and boxes of jewelry. I had to look at every single thing, 'cause I am either OCD or just weird.
I paid $1 each. Lots of sterling, a Jasper(?) bangle, some sterling assorted earrings and necklaces and a 10k crucifix.

IMG_20190525_173458281.jpg
I bet I was the only one who knew what this was.
An Egyptian mummy bead necklace. (I had one years ago, which I ordered from a catalog antiquities dealer)
They were made for burials and are found in profusion in certain areas like Giza. They are restrung and sold to tourists. No, the burial thing does not bother me at all.
This one has modern scarabs added. Super cool!
IMG_20190525_172932705.jpg
This Delft pin with Sterling filigree is so pretty.
Needs cleaning.
IMG_20190525_171914607.jpg
In amongst the jewelry was this lonely trillion citrine, in the original bag waiting for me to find her.

This was from Goodwill. I had a 40% off coupon that was only good for this weekend, so I dropped in, not expecting to find anything great.
But this watch swept me off my feet. I am not a watch girl, like our dear @Bron357, but I had to have it.
Sterling, Swiss made, 7 jewels and it works! I'm guessing it is 1900-1920s, but not sure.
The enamel work is mesmerizing. I believe it is called guilloche. I have seen such pieces on the Antiques Roadshow, but never thought I would find one at the local Goodwill. I paid $24.

Calling @Bron357, when do you think this watch was made?
I'm thinking 1900-1920, but I'm not sure.

Have you, very carefully, opened the back. It might be French. If it’s working, super score! Just be gentle winding it and not overwind. It would have had a swivel bale originally so the watch is worn “pattern out” and swiveling it to read the time.
Here are my two, costing ALOT more than $24! Mine have the original enamel and silver watch chains. If you keep searching on eBay you might come across a suitable watch chain to pair it with. Otherwise a silver chain, about 26inches is the go.

Bron, I knew you would have some of these beautiful guilloche watches! They are so gorgeous! I love the green one.
I did open it up. How could I resist?
It does work, but it has been losing time. But that's ok, because I am so in love with it!
I put it on a long chain, but I will be on the lookout for a more authentic one.

If it’s working, it only needs a clean and oil. Not too expensive. It won’t keep perfect time in any regard, losing a minute or so a day. But who cares! Do you have a nice old style watch maker nearby? The old style guys are usually thrilled to get a “real watch” to work on!
