What I meant to say is that designs are popular for a while, then go out of style and are replaced by a new trend. Yellow gold, thick ring shanks and marquise cuts have all been trendy and then fallen out of fashion. Yellow gold and marquise stones have been around for a long time - you could call them classics, yet some people consider them dated. My point is that it is great if you can find something that YOU love, regardless of trends. Besides, I'm not even sure that being able to associate a certain style with a particular time period is inherently bad. It reveals (roughly) when you got engaged, no shame in that! =)2 I was not critisizing the pave style, just trying to give a historical perspective and encourageing the OP to think outside the box.

I understand what you're saying... and the OP's FF expressed that pave was exactly what she wanted, so I see no reason for anyone to mention that it's their opinion it's trendy and may fall out of fashion as maybe a forewarning of sorts. There is no reason to think outside the box when the intended wearer has given the OP her wishes. As a matter of fact, trying to come up with something "different" for the sake of it almost always ends badly... esp when the FF has explicitly told him what she wants.

That said, if the wearer is the one purchasing and/or designing a piece and wants to be different, I see nothing wrong with entertaining the opinions and ideas of others and helping him/her "think outside the box"... KWIM?

Agree with all of this! And I love channel set even if it is old fashioned. :) People should get what makes their heart sing!

Pave styles date way back. I don't consider them to be what's 'hot right now'. Either way, tho, pave is what his girlfriend has expressed an interest in. Personally, I think it's a terrific choice with an unhalo'd solitaire.
Actually, pave has been on trend for 15+ years now... and it's been popular for a very long time before then. It's what I would consider more of a classic style than a trend...
From the sentiment I got from my FF the reason she liked it because she felt that it's been a classic style for a while. Either way I go with what she wants.

I reached out to DKJ, I really liked that instagram pave he posted but I am worried about him contacting me in time.

Wanted to get your input on this pave 6 prong I found on whiteflash. I like it but I wanted to get some expert eyes on it =D Also wanted to have a backup in case I needed to pivot.

Many have used @denverappraiser (aka Neil Beaty) for this service. He's a long time PS member.

(303) 223-4944
https://www.facebook.com/neil.beaty

Neil offers this service and has talked about it here on PS before. @shelstone You really don’t need to see this diamond in person. You can have it sent to
Neil and he can evaluate it and talk to you on the phone and hold your hand through it all! He will also hold the money in escrow while he evaluates it and will only release the funds to the seller assuming everything checks out. This is how I would handle buying something high value on LT.

That is pretty and classic but the head (where the diamond is set) is very basic, you may want something a touch more elegant after all of this hard work. There are several variations on this theme on the WF list:

https://www.whiteflash.com/engageme...ve-diamond-engagement-ring-by-vatche-1650.htm (I lot of posters on PS like Vatche brand... you should search, very popular choices the Vatche rings!)

https://www.whiteflash.com/engageme...single-shank-diamond-engagement-ring-4732.htm (4 prong, but they are double prongs so many feel they are more secure)

https://www.whiteflash.com/engageme...tani-1rz1345-diamond-engagement-ring-5207.htm (has 8 prongs and more metal - but the side stones are bigger melee)

I personally recently used Steven Kirsch for a custom ring. David Klass is very popular too but when I contacted them I felt the response time to get back to my original inquiry (2 weeks) was a nag, and I also went with a closer east coast jeweler in case I ever wanted to have it checked in person in the future.

Another NYC jeweler more popular here than SK is Victor Canera but I have not used him. I did use Leon Mege in the past, and I would stay away.

So Steven is a jeweler in NYC that specializes in pave, but my ring style is not pave. His price for my custom ring was comparable to the whiteflash one you showed us. I supplied my own stones though. He currently has it to modify the shank a smidge, or I would show more pictures. He is known for Pave work. I would give yourself 6-8 weeks if going with a bench made piece though. https://www.instagram.com/stevenkirschinc/?hl=en http://stevenkirsch.com/

How do you feel about this 6 prong pave fishtail from BGD?

https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...stones/six-prong-fishtail-pave-platinum-5509p

I really like the way the pave stones are set. Also FF doesn't seem to like the cathedral style prong where the diamond is elevated.

I like it! Again, it's a classic that will continue to look wonderful, regardless of changing fashion. Personally, I like cathedral arms - and they don't actually make the center stone higher; the shank and the diamond remain the same height (and the height is the choice of the person purchasing the ring), and the cathedral arms just connect the 2. But regardless of that, a lot of people prefer no cathedral arms, and that is an equally pretty design. So - whatever she likes is going to work!

Any progress on the diamond?

This is STUNNING! Can we please have the stats, including finger size, and can you PLEASE start a thread on this raging beauty!!

I will when I get it back!! He has it. I think I will have it back by the weekend. The shank was too broad (under my finger)... he is adjusting it... SK, what a gentleman to work with!

Did you hear back from DKJ? Just to let you know, their prices will almost certainly be better than BGD. And they can, of course, do whatever style you like.

Sorry I'm just seeing this... I love the BG one! (much more so than the first WF you listed - I'm not crazy over the cathedral style either)

That said... I would go with David Klass if you could. As @mrs-b said, better prices and custom.

Thanks @msop04 really appreciate the kind words! =)2

@mrs-b I did hear back from DKJ and he quoted me at $2k which wasn't too far from the $2400 BGD Fishtail pave or the 6 prong pave I was quoted at WF $2300.

But I do have some news to share with you all, after visiting the BGD and WF stores in person I've decided to forgo going after the LT and pursue one of their inhouse diamonds. The ACA cut really impressed me in the WF store and then I sat with Brian himself at his place going through diamonds and those just completely blew me away. (@TimMD good call on visiting these places!)

Plus after discussing with FF without dropping too many hints I was completely wrong (no surprise here) about the non upgrade. In her mind once she is done her residency and is more established she see no reason not to upgrade. So I feel going with WF or BGD will provide way more flexibility down the road and be major key.

Also I finally got to see what a well cut J looks like in person and to me the "tint" is so insignificant haha. I feel like all the stigma I read before this forum I would of never bothered looking that far down the color spectrum. So thanks to all you guys for the awesome lessons!

I already gave the headsup to BTCA and she was super supportive so shoutout to her as well!

HURRAY! The upgrade policy is a big deal to me so I can see why you decided to go that route (even though @BTCA’s stone is gorgeous.) That was a huge reason why I went with a vendor even though I LOVE bargain hunting. Do compare policies though as they are slightly different!

I can’t wait to see what you decide! I spoke with people at both Whiteflash and Brian Gavin and they have been great.

It honestly is major key if you know down the line you'll go bigger or whiter. That's true whiteflash's policy has way more flexibility tho I feel BGD stones at least the one's I saw were just ridiculous quality in terms of cut. Plus BGD has the fish tail 6 prong pave setting that I really like.

https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...stones/six-prong-fishtail-pave-platinum-5509p

However, BGD 2ct price wise are just a little out of budget compared to WF. Haha I am honestly debating getting a WF stone but a BGD setting to get the best of both worlds.

Great news re the WF diamond! I'm sure she'll love it, and that upgrade policy is worth its weight in...well...diamonds, I suppose.

Personally, I would still go with DKJ for the setting. Their prong work is better (my opinion, but it's an experienced one) - more delicate and prettier - and I think you'll get a nicer result.

But either way, you're going to get a killer ring! So, well done, you!

Out of curiosity, what is your FF doing a residency in?

Yeah I am shooting emails back and forth with DKJ as we speak.

The first time I was shown his work I was shown this 6 prong pave ring:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxh4mp0ld-a/

I really liked the Pave design but I couldn't get over the prongs looking to sharp for my liking.

I went through more of his instagram and found this design of the 6 prong pave:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs8Y_kOFnEz/

I think I prefer this style way more! Thoughts?

I think both options are beautiful! I like the first one better for many reasons. The second one is like a eternity ring, which can not be resize. This is maybe something you have to consider. Does her finger size change from season to season? What about pregnancy down the road?

Since it is custom, you can probably ask him to make the band (shank) part like the first ring and the prongs on the center stone like the second!

Did you see this BG Blue when you visited? It looks like it’s almost within your budget.

https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...2.108-j-vs1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104101239078
Nice stone if she don't mind the J color.

I love the BGD stones but the pricing on them is a little out of budget. Also the upgrade policy for whiteflash provides a lot more flexibility in my opinion

I am very comfortable with the J color and don't think that should be an issue for my FF especially if I hit the 2ct size.

@mrs-b @msop04

How do we feel about this diamond from WF? It hits my budget requirements and when I saw it in person I couldn't make out the inclusions. Felt that it was very eye clean despite the rating and thought it was a good value diamond.
Thoughts?

I am a huge fan of the BGD diamonds I think hte quality is exceptional just a little out of my budget unfortunately. She is doing neuropsychology!
