Should I go with a pear?

Hello. New to rhis forum. I will be celebrating my 30th anniversary in June and we are getting new wedding bands. Hubby wants to upgrade my engagement ring too. I have a .80 round on a gorgeous setting but he wants wow factor this time and I have always lived the pear shape. My dream is a 1.5 carat pear center in a micro halo
I'm worried about two things
1. Will it sparkle enough? What specs should I look for in a pear?
2. I like high set rings. Can a pear halo be high set? My current ER is set very high.
Thank you!

Finding a nice pear takes a lot of work. Most pears do not return light well down towards the pointed in. The better pears usually have a more rounded
fat in and shorter pointed in but...all depends. We dont recommend going below and H on a pear (G would be better though). You can drop down to
eye-clean SI1. The most important thing though is to find a well cut one that returns light nicely.

How do you feel about ovals? August Vintage is making an oval that has excellent light return.

What is your budget for the whole thing?

I think pears are beautiful, especially with a pave halo. Why not go and try some on at a store? I saw a ring just as you describe at pandora last week, fake of course. Just looking at some should answer your doubts. And yes, how it is set is up to you.

Thank you for this info. The budget is about 7-8K
I might need to go in and look at loose, stones but this will help me to be more informed.

Wow. That stone is beautiful but might be a bit wide for me. I know it won' be easy to find that perfect pear shape. My other issue is that I like high settings I'm not sure a pear can be made to sit that high. ??

Diamonds can sit as high as they make the setting. Generally, the diamond itself should be somewhat protected, and the higher it sits, more metal should be used to strengthen the connection of the crown and shank. As the higher it is off your finger, the more likely you are to bump and bang it on stuff.

Is that just for the stone or for the stone and setting? $8k will not get you a 1.5 and a halo setting (but I understand that would be your
dream ring).

Pears can be set high. I had one that was up at 9mm (baguettes on the side). I dont like the look of high but that's your call.
Witih pears pay more attention to the LxW than the carat weight.

Could not find any stone that I thought was "fantastic" but these looked nice out of what is available.
