Hi ps’ers

Am looking at a 3.5ct round brilliant that I would love your thoughts on the inclusions.

It scores a 2.6 on hca and I have seen it in person and do like it but that was before I saw the plot.

It will cost around $60,000aud so I think that price is ok - usd equivalent would be $47,000usd.

Here are the specs... no other info or videos sorry!

When you saw it in person, were you able to see it under magnification? Did the body of the stone seem milky or cloudy from the mbf? Were you able to see it in different lighting environments to see if light scatters from the inclusions obstructing the light return? What did you see with your naked eye? In person is far different than paper and even videos....

Definitely wasn’t milky or cloudy, looked in store and bright sunlight.

It was so sparkly with flashes on every movement it was hard to see anything.

Going back to look with loop tomorrow but just unsure if the location and types of inclusions raise flags! Or if the price is good!

Thanks Matthew!

I have a photo of it on my hand but it’s dark and doesn’t show much!

Do diamonds with medium fluorescence photograph dark or is it just poor skills?

If you had a 60k budget, why wouldn't you want to consider buying from overseas? You could even price in a trip to the Whiteflash showroom, keep the diamond in your pocket and save on the GST + 5% ... or propose in the US. The 15% cost on $60000AUD would be a business return fare! Do you really have to go with >3Ct???

A few crystals close to the edge can be hidden with prongs. Is the girdle thin or thick? Medium fluoro is a personalised thing.

It is impossible to comment on inclusions and whether it is eye-clean without seeing the stone on an SI1 with the plot above.

Who certified the diamond? A G, SI1 in an AGS/GIA report means a lot more than a G, SI1 in a less reputable grader where the inclusions could be SI2/I1

An ideal scope would be useful.

It’s a GIA report.

Girdle is slightly thick, faceted.

I’m more interested in whether the positioning/types of inclusions raise any red flags rather than peoples opinion on eye clean as I can speak to the jeweler and see that for myself.

The angles of this stone are not complimentary (as suggested by the HCA greater than 2.0). The Crown angle is too high for the pavilion angle. So, the stone is cut to retain more weight and give up performance. Not a combo I prefer. Relative to eyeclean, I would expect that the feathers are visible under some or all lighting conditions at the right angle due to their positions and quantity. You really need an IS or ASET to look at light return if you want to stick with this stone. By eye, look carefully at the stone at multiple angles in natural light and fluorescent light (avoid the light near the cases in the jewelry store as they are meant to make anything sparkle). You should also ask for a H&A image to evaluate symmetry.

Thanks Rocky, that’s exactly the feedback I was after!

I’m open to suggestions if anyone has any? Virtual, not in house can work for me as I can get them called in by my jeweler I presume!

Thanks!

Yes, that price would be comparable to the current stones price but always happy to save a few dollars or get a bigger diamond :D
