I love it!!!

Not enough
I will be away the next 1.5 weeks for work so probably none.

Bought 2 new pink spinels. The large one is about 3.1 ct, inclusions at the side. 1.9 ct silky pink spinel and the small one as a gift.

Really lovely! Do you have plans for the large one yet? Maybe a ring/pendant convertible piece? Love the smaller silky! You have a great collection of spinels!

You read my mind! The 3 ct looks like it would fit into the same setting as my convertible.

I think that would be a fabulous addition to your collection, because it would go well as a pendant and a ring, with the other rings which you have. Do you have another lighter pink spinel pendant yet?

Nope no pink spinel pendant and ring yet. Just tiny pink spinel studs :)
I'm going to try to hunt for more before deciding which ones to set and I which designs and coloured gold.

Seeing Seaglow's new old jadeite carvings reminded me of these 2 I have kept away in a box together with other small jadeite carvings.

The first is a very thin and nicely carved peacock with veins of green. This is obviously carved from the jade boulder cover a long time ago as the current local craftsmen can't do this fine a detail.
The second is a basket of longevity peaches (that's what peaches symbolise for the Chinese), with a thin vein of green in the white portion. Because it's flat though not as thin as the first, I daresay it's also from the jade cover portion. My jeweller found this at Bogyoke market over 10 years ago and bought it to resell. It was lying all forlorn and forgotten in a corner of one of the glass showcases until I asked to see it.

While not desirable greens, I really love these 2 old pieces as they have so much character, being nicely carved by hand rather than machine.

Here are a few more.

An old brownish orange flower basket carved on both sides, carved by hand.

Double carps with money coins. This is new stock and you can tell that the bi-coloured carving isn't as lyrical. Bought it to add to my collection of different type A jadeite colours.

Old translucent green bird. This is very thin but a very good colour and translucency. Old whimsical carving done by hand.

Burmesedaze, I love those greens too. They are fabulous, soulfully carved jades! I love the first one with both the yellow green colors, and the elegance of the bird. Would look great paired with a yellow jade bangle and fall clothing.

I have these 2 jadeite rings that are too small for me in the summer months. The weather now is cool and rainy and I guess my fingers are less puffy now. So these do fit during the cooler months. Old carvings.

The very white jadeite with a touch of apple green was from a famous Myanmar mine that is now depleted.

It's amazing that the 4 pendants are carved from a single stone! Machine carved as the details are neat and of even height. I will probably keep 1 (with the peach blossom flowers) and sell off the other 3.

They actually represent the 4 seasonal flowers of China, also known as the 4 Noble Ones cited in Confucius, representing 4 noble virtues. Or gentlemen virtues.

I love that symbolism. They are beautiful and I imagine are so lovely to hold, icy cold and smooth.

Those will make great bangles, Burmesedaze! I can imagine them very well. They would tie your rings, pendants and earrings together perfectly.

Other goodies I saw over the weekend but did not buy...
6.5ct strong pink Mogok untreated sapphire but with a window and feather inclusions. Asking for the sky at US$50k, with an offer received for around US$25k.

5.19ct greyish purple Mogok spinel, a clean stone but huge window.

Trays of spinels :) 20170722_140104.jpg 20170722_140006.jpg 20170723_144623.jpg 20170723_140326.jpg 20170723_145148.jpg 20170723_145153.jpg

So many spinels! One day, I'd love to choose one spinel for a ring. They are lovely stones.

Gosh, I think for me, a luscious medium, romantic pink, or a lovely steely blue one! That said, I love them all. I love the saturated red ones very much, though it would get the least wear because reds are not the best looking on my skin. I hate that Because reds are gorgeous!

Oh, definitely do get a pink, and the sooner rather than later. Prices for pink spinels are already at next to ridiculous prices after the reds!
For blue spinels, Sri Lanka may be a better source than Myanmar. I hardly see any nice blue ones here that aren't too dark.
I know what you mean about the reds. It's like me with yellow :)

You are right, if I don't get one soon, I might not be able to later. I'll start looking in the Fall. That's interesting about the blues, and thank you for the tip! I know they are hard to find. I think the cobalt blues are wonderful!
How funny, I also feel that way about yellows! I had a gorgeous natural Baltic amber necklace which I sold because I just couldn't wear it. It brought out the yellow in my eye whites and on my teeth when I smiled. Not a good look lol.

Which colour would it be?

I have this dream - of a blue two stone: Mid-day - Midnight, sky-blue - midnight blue. The right colors woud be naturalistic, so not Gem saturation. That tray of spinels may contain the right shades, if not the right size. I am sure that the right pair was on that table.

I have not decided the parameters of the design - especially the cut of the pair; this shall be done [no rush].

It's always easier to find smaller stones that are cleaner and more varied in colours. The quest for larger ones to your heart's desire will be a longer voyage indeed. In addition to closely matching measurements and shapes :)

True enough. I am happier to think things out starting from the posibilities of materials, now that I am thinking of turning this long-enjoyed concept into a real thing [seeing the trays of spinels & some other things around here spurred action !]

I am not in a hurry. There is a small notebook of designs that has ripen over years ...

Unpolished jadeite teapot and a slab of rough for matching teacups. Utility jade. Nicely carved. Just took some pictures of it. 20170727_125650.jpg 20170727_125658.jpg 20170727_125707.jpg 20170727_125716.jpg 20170727_131859.jpg
