Does Trump Plan To Pardon His Cronies? His Family Members? Himself?
The news in the past couple of days has brought stories about whether Donald Trump is already planning pardons for members of his family and even for himself. Today Sarah Sanders was even asked about whether he was planning these pardons at a press conference, which I found utterly astonishing. I mean, pardons are only given to the guilty. If the president was contemplating them, he was admitting that he was considering, and considering seriously, that he and members of his family might be guilty of crimes. This is not normal behavior.

Tonight I saw this article in the on-line version of, "The New York Times". It explains that presidential pardons made for corrupt purposes and to obstruct justice might be a crime. Who would have thought that The United States would have been dragged this low?

Nothing about this administration is normal. If everything reported is fake news and the Russia allegations are false, why on earth are Trump and his family hiring lawyers and asking questions regarding who can issue pardons? So who will Trump Fire next?

Excerpted from today's edition of, "The New York The New York Times".

"Trump Says He Has ‘Complete Power’ to Pardon"

"WASHINGTON — President Trump on Saturday asserted the 'complete power to pardon' relatives, aides and possibly even himself in response to investigations into Russia’s meddling in last year’s election, as he came to the defense of Attorney General Jeff Sessions just days after expressing regret about appointing him.

In a series of early morning messages on Twitter, Mr. Trump suggested that he had no need to use the pardon power at this point but left the option open. While presidents have the authority to pardon others for federal crimes, legal scholars debate whether a president can pardon himself. Mr. Trump’s use of the word “complete” seemed to suggest he did not see a limit to that authority.

'While all agree the U.S. President has the complete power to pardon, why think of that when only crime so far is LEAKS against us,' he wrote on Twitter. 'FAKE NEWS.'

The Washington Post reported in recent days that Mr. Trump and advisers had discussed pardons as a special counsel intensifies his investigation into whether associates of Mr. Trump and his campaign conspired with Russia to intervene in the 2016 presidential campaign.

The president also responded to another article by The Post reporting that Mr. Sessions may have discussed campaign activities and policy with the Russian ambassador, Sergey I. Kislyak, last year in contrast to his public statements. Mr. Trump excoriated the newspaper and expressed no concern about his attorney general’s conduct. The Post cited intercepted communications between Mr. Kislyak and his home office in Moscow."

As yesterday's NY Times opinion piece by Daniel Hemel and Eric Posner points out, once the people he pardons (assuming he does) have no more legal jeopardy of their own, they will no longer have cause to plead the 5th, with potentially damaging results to Trump himself when they testify. Excerpt from this article:

"While the law on this subject is unsettled, that in itself should be unsettling to the president as he considers whether to grant clemency. Not only might the pardons constitute obstruction, but the pardoned individuals might be compelled to testify against Mr. Trump without any recourse to the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, since they would no longer have any concern about incriminating themselves.

"He could ensure that his family members and aides get off scot-free for any crimes they may have committed during the 2016 campaign. But by extricating those individuals from a legal predicament, he might make his own predicament worse."

Well he tweeted this morning that he has complete power to pardon. How any one could think this ego manic was a good person to be president is beyond me. He feels he and his family are completely above the law.

100% he thinks he has unlimited pardon powers. He is in for a world of hurt when he realizes he doesn't.

The first person he should pardon is HRC.
