I'm done cutting trees and dealing with all the mess. This year I bought a $400 super realistic fake tree from Home depot. We were all standing around staring at it because it looked so real and I decided to splurge and buy it! I got some traditional colored christmas ball ornaments on sale at AC Moore. I hung one of these in it to make it smell real. I am in love.

So the tree @soxfan recommended at HD sold out and I ended up buying a tree from Wayfair, which had a coupon and free shipping so it was very inexpensive. DH talked me into getting a slim tree that doesn't take as much space in the room.
DS helped me put it up and decorate today. He was trying to avoid doing his math homework:lol-2: . We put it on a base for more visibility.
I'm thinking it needs a topper?

I've been so inspired by this thread - I have been dealing with some stuff and was just NOT feeling up to decorating for christmas beyond putting out my ceramic trees and other low-effort tabletop items, but then my husband put up the tree on his own last weekend so I came to this thread and looked at some youtube videos to get inspired. Our main tree is a fat 10-footer so it's no small thing to decorate. Thank goodness it is pre-lit. I want to add more lights but wasn't up to it this year. This is only our second Christmas in our new big house and so it's quite the difference in terms of the amount of space to decorate. Our old house could only accommodate a small tree in an urn, that is about four feet tall total, and so even the difference between trees alone is massive (especially since I still put the small one up). But now I'm almost done decorating. Doesn't look anywhere near as good as some of you all - but then I've only been collecting decorations for this house for a year. We haven't even figured out all our furniture for this house yet, let alone all the holiday decor!

My husband was saying that he wishes we had gotten a 12 or 14-foot tree rather than the 10-foot one... I don't know why he thinks I want to spend any MORE time decorating than I already do, lol! I told him only a tree that tall if he spend three three-hour shifts helping to put on ornaments, lol. We'd also need a taller ladder.

Our tree just after we finished decorating it...

...and the carnage after leaving our kitty Panda alone for an hour (the streamers were a late addition courtesy of my 6 year old son )

This cat is on an 8’ ladder and yes he can climb up AND down on his own and yes it looks ridiculous when he does. He loves to supervise the tree-trimming from on high. SO FAR the only decoration he messes up though is the tree skirt, which he loves burrowing under. The other cat leaves it all entirely alone.

Thank you - they are definitely getting easier! Nothing was all that bad in the grand scheme of things, but it was just enough causing stress all at once that I wasn’t really in the festive spirit. But having the decorations up really helps me feel more festive!

I like your table tree. As soon as all the kids moved out, my parents switched to a 3’ tree on a table. They get a real one and so decorate it every year. What my grandparents did though was have a 3’ fake tree they kept in a box already decorated, so all they had to do was take it from the closet to the living room and stick it on the coffee table. Nice and easy. That’s definitely #goals for when I am older. Funny - they had a big house with two-story ceilings too, but I guess didn’t like to put up a tree? They mainly put rainbow lights on everything that rainbow lights could go on.

Does this count? It's the only decoration I put up (because 4 cats yanno) and only because the car dealership gave it to us when DH bought his new car. It lasted above the fireplace for 1 hour before Atticus decided to deck himself in greenery for a nap.

Love all the photos! All of you have such beautiful decorations and gorgeous homes. I didn't get around to putting up decorations with year (between starting a new job, getting married, honeymoon and moving to a new place all within the past few months, it's been hectic!) But here are some photos from last year and the year before.

I did at least get around to making gingerbread cookies for my coworkers this year.
