@missy

Fred is looking great! Wow, it's night and day compared to his earlier pictures where we were all afraid he was not going to make it! I'm so glad he seems to have perked up.

Oliver looks like he has naughtiness in his heart! (I have a soft spot for the mischievous ones!) Sounds like the older boys are going to have their work cut out for them!

Fingers crossed that ringwormgate is almost over! What a trial this has been!

Thank you @cmd2014! I hope you have gotten rid of the spot you had and that all is going well. You are so right. It has been quite the trial and until we get an all clear I cannot take a full breath. Trying to push back the worries. To date this has been the craziest and most challenging year for us. I am trying not to think too far ahead and just taking things one day at a time.

Tommy's blood work came back yesterday afternoon and his hyperthyroidism has gotten much worse in the past 18 weeks. We are giving him a very small dose of thyroid meds (2.5 mg twice a day) so probably will have to increase his dose but will wait til his follow up appointment with my sister in 3 weeks.Tommy isn't easy to pill and he has trouble eating the pill pockets (overbite prevents him from eating certain things easily) but this is nothing compared to RW.

And haha Oliver is very naughty. We let him out for an hour yesterday under supervision and he was chasing Tommy all over the place and hissing up a storm. Not Tommy but Oliver was hissing. And when I went to pick him up he hissed at me. We are going to continue introducing him a bit at a time. The problem is with the food since Oliver has no internal full signal it seems. With Fred and Bobby and Tommy I leave food out all day as Tommy and Fred take tiny bits of food throughout the day. Everyone pretty much respects the other's food. Not Oliver. So not sure how this is going to play out. I covered all the food when we let Oliver mingle last night but this is not sustainable or Fred and Tommy will fade away to zero lbs. Just another challenge we have to figure out.

I don't even bother buying expensive sheets any more our cats like to shred the top of them on the beds with their claws, along with the bottom sides of the bed/mattresses... Brand new couple of hundred dollar sheets, less than two days tiny holes and rip marks in them that's what ours do.... *sigh* the things we put up with for our cats :lol::lol:

Yes you are right. Indeed. What we put up with for the cats.
Oliver has shredded our expensive sheets and comforter too and my silk pillow cases. This cat is proving to cost more than bling given all our RW expenses and corneal ulcer expenses with the Vet ophthalmologist and everything he is destroying. But at the moment all I want is all 4 cats to be RW free and we will deal with the rest.

Hugo used to go NUTS when I trimmed his nails - biting, clawing, hissing, thrashing around - it was a nightmare to deal with. I had never cut the quick on any of my pets before but I did it to Hugo regularly because he would move around so much even when I thought I had him totally restrained, and I felt terrible. But now that I've had him over a year and he's had to get his claws trimmed monthly, he lays still and just hisses and cries. I'm hoping that in another year or so, it won't even be that stressful for him. T doesn't seem to mind it at all!

I love those pictures of Fred with the toy! I'm so glad he's still finding joy in the world.

Yup exactly. Oliver is a screaming banshee. No one ever cut him to the quick though but he is a huge baby. And despite all he has been through very spoiled too. He is a handful. I have had many cats in our family over the decades but Oliver takes the cake on brattiness. We still love him (especially Greg) but he can be annoying. To say the least. Especially when he comes over to me in the middle of the night and just pushes my head off the pillow by laying his body on the pillow and pushing himself into my face so I cannot breathe and have to move off the pillow. It would be funny if I wasn't getting my sleep even more interrupted than usual. Wish we could get video of that.

I hope Hugo starts taking the nail clipping more calmly as time goes on and that it isn't as stressful for him as it was in the past. Poor sweetie.
Glad T doesn't mind it. Cats are so individual in all ways. When I think about all the cats we have had and how different they all are. Just like people.

I have linked before what I use for my cats - SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder, White (4 x C Batteries Required) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O0UIPTY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zbt5DbMD87B8B

It reads their microchip and you can program it to be accessible to however many cats you want. T has food allergies so he can only eat his food and this has worked very well for me keeping their food separate. There wasn’t a steep learning curve - I just followed the directions and both cats figured it out easily. They’re not cheap but I’ve had my two units 1.5 years now with no problems (and still on the first batteries!).

oh dear Olli
Aunty Borris wants to teach you human bed manners and how far is acceptable to push one's humans
the idea is to get as much of their bed as you can to relax in -sleep horizontal between the humans but don't destroy the lovelly sheets

Thanks @distracts only Oliver is microchipped and I don't think I want to put Fred through that. It was sort of traumatic for me when Elaine microchipped Oliver. She told us a story where a cat was killed while microchipped and while I know that is the very rare exception our cats are old now and I don't want to put them through yet another ordeal and it would be traumatic for them after all they went and are still going through. But I love that idea as a solution in theory. What a clever solution it is! So glad it works well for you and your kitties. Definitely worth the money no doubt. If we ever rescue more cats we will absolutely microchip them. When we rescued the others no one suggested it (not sure it was being done as much over a decade ago) and our cats are house cats and never would escape we are super careful. But yeah definitely from here on in everyone we rescue and adopt will be microchipped like Oliver.

And Fred was quite content to hang out with us purring while all the brouhaha was happening with Oliver, Tommy and Bobby. Fred is looking improved despite the brown hair still not growing in white on his paws and tummy.

@missy, Fred looks so much better now! I know he still has lots of issues but it's a huge improvement from how he looked a few months ago. This picture of Fred makes me smile. He looks like such a little gentleman.

Oh Oliver, you are such stinker! I think when we have multiples (regardless of the species) there is always one who is a bit of a lovable troublemaker. Hopefully his brothers can tune him in and instill some manners in him sooner than later.

I am going through similar food woes as well. Mitzi doesn't have an off switch either when it comes to food. She'll go through 3 bowls of food if I let her, which I don't. Our vet compared her to a lab. It is hard when they all have specific requirements.

I suddenly feel better about my sleep situation after reading about Oliver. I may be getting crowded out of my bed by the baby but at least she doesn't nip me in the middle of the night. The one time she jumped on my face was enough to scare the wits out of me. Usually I just have 4 little paws pushed into my back, ribs or armpit.

I still don't know how you manage all of this. I get exhausted just reading about your daily routine.

@missy what if you put a microchip in a collar for each of them? I wonder if that would work for the feeding bowl?

It has tags you can put on their collars - I noticed none of them wear collars so I didn’t mention it.

Oy I am sorry you have some animal issues too. I think Mitzi and Oliver are on the same page here. He is never satiated. I wonder if he is missing that chemical leptin that signals we are full. Or maybe I have that wrong are Leptin but you know what I mean. They would eat til they explode. Not good. Hope your sleep improves and I feel your pain. And thanks. I just am taking it one day at a time and one hour at a time when that gets to be overwhelming. It's the only way to get through it. To keep on going not looking too far ahead.

@missy Hi missy, I know you don't know me, but I am sick in bed right now and over the last few days I have read all your posts from page 1 in this thread up until today. I absolutely cannot believe the journey you have been on with this. It's insane!

I don't post often, but I lurk on PS a lot - so fun to learn and dream. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I am praying for you & Greg & your cats. I admire the commitment you both have to your family. Your selfless dedication to them is inspiring. I will continue to pray that this ringworm is gone FOREVER! I am also praying for Greg's knee!

Thank you so much @Iwanttosparkle, I appreciate your kind words and your good wishes and prayers. More than I can say. I draw energy from all the warm and generous support of PSers here and it makes a difference.

Oliver has learned to play fetch! Yay for Oliver. He is still biting mommy in the middle of the night however but little bites just telling me he is there and wants to play haha. I am hoping he eventually learns it is not OK. I am working on that.

Unfortunately we have stopped socializing Oliver with the others for now because Tommy has a cold. It's probably too late as Oliver was already exposed to Tommy when his cold was brewing but we are just doing the best we can with the info we have at the time. If Oliver gets a cold his herpetic eye infection might come out again so hoping hard that doesn't happen. Also hoping hard Tommy gets over this because colds have a way of taking on a life of its own and wreaking havoc with cats and their eating since if they cannot smell the food they will not eat the food. And we are giving Tommy his thyroid meds so just an additional stressor.

A few updated pics for your enjoyment. Fred is looking good knock wood and has gained some weight in his face. He still isn't moving much due to his severe arthritis and when he does move it is painstaking. I hope we can provide him relief soon with the steroid pills but will wait til we get the all clear from the vet.

Thank you @missy I ended up going to the doctor because it was getting worse not better. She said I needed antibiotics. I hate taking antibiotics! But I’m doing it because I found out that 2 family members that came over to my house for Thanksgiving had strep throat :eek2: :oops2:

My children like looking at the pictures of your cats. Poor Fred, I hope he can start the steroid medicine soon. And that Tommy’s cold passes soon without spreading to anyone else. Lots of love!

Oh my gosh, I hope you are starting to feel much better. How inconsiderate of your family members to come over with Strep throat. That is pretty contagious. :(

I am glad your children enjoy the photos of my cats. Please tell them the kitties send purrs and hugs to them.
And thank you so much for your continued good wishes. XOXO.

Here is an older photo of our Fred for your kids. At our Brooklyn home. Relaxing in our library room.

fredrelaxing.jpg

And laying in bed with us. He was so much heavier here. He lost so much weight poor sweet baby.

Fingers and toes crossed we get him back to decent health.

I don't think so as Tommy was sneezing before we took him to the veterinarian office last Saturday. Who knows. All I know is it is one thing after another and we are just taking it all one day at a time and doing all we can for our sweet purr babies. Thank you for your continued well wishes dear @Daisys and Diamonds and I hope everyone is doing A OK by you. Hugs.

Missy, I have not been on the site in awhile, but just saw this and am sending you BIG get well dust. You are doing more for your furbabies than many do for their human children...and at least from the cheap seats, they look MUCH better.

I know how hard it is, mentally, to take care of recurring infections in pets. It took me almost 9 months to finally rid Pumpkin of Giardia (which, like you, I think he had when I adopted him). Same thing, constant cleaning, conflicting med information, variable poops, etc. It's hard with 1 pet, you have been doing AMAZINGLY well keeping all your gang inching back to full recovery.

Do you still need Malaseb? I think I have an almost full bottle running around here somewhere. Happy to send it along. LMK.

Pumpkin is sending pixie dust and good vibes your way.

@missy Sorry for the delay, I hadn’t been on the forum in a few days. The antibiotics didn’t agree with my digestive tract. I think I’ve turned the corner now.

Thank you for the photos ❤ We were oohing & aahing over here. Fred looks so sweet lounging on his back. That’s the life! We’d like to reach through the screen and rub his belly. My little boy has lots of allergies and asthma so we can’t have cats. We are living vicariously through you! And all the kitten calendars that my daughters get. (Although I did read your posts about allergy shots helping your husband’s allergies so maybe my son will be able to do that someday).

Still praying for the ringworm fungus to die and never come back!

P.S. I cant get over the persistence of that stuff. Do you remember in school when the teachers would say that in a post-nuclear war there would only be roaches left on earth? After reading what you have been through I now imagine it as roaches and ringworm spores :-/
