SNIP:
A 10-week-old abandoned puppy with a secondary tail, in the middle of his head, has been taken in by an animal rescue centre in Missouri.

Staff at Mac's Mission, which is predominantly for animals with special needs, have called the puppy Narwhal.
They had been told there was "no medical need to remove" the extra tail as it caused him no pain, they said.

Awwww! :kiss2:
I wonder whether it wags when he's happy.

After this kind of press coverage I bet lots of people will want to adopt him.

I also wonder whether this is the result of another jerk messing around with those cheap CRISPR genetic engineering kits for home use.
No joke - watch Unnatural Selection, a riveting shocking documentary that's now streaming on Netflix.
It exposes one moron who used CRISPR to make glow in the the dark rats and wants to do that with dogs he keeps in cages in the backyard of his Mississippi home.

He is downright adorable! And I’m with you on wondering if it wags...how cute that would be.

I wonder if the tail is from a parasitic conjoined twin? There are a lot of shows on humans with parasitic twins causing the look of additional limbs....I watch WAY too much TLC Channel.

I saw him this AM while watching the news and he is just precious. I think he will have his choice of loving homes now. Narwhal is a sweet puppy.

It does not wag. In the article I saw it showed an xray they did on him and it's only attached by skin to his forehead.

He is so cute, but this made me a little sad. It could be a genetic accident but I hope it is not inbreeding. He is the sweetest looking little guy though.

Good point.

Many scumbag people breed dogs for fast profit.
This makes inbreeding is a huge problem.

The pic freaks me out and makes me feel a little sick. I do have a dog who was born with extra toes that had to be removed because of the potential to hurt himself, so I know these things happen, but a tail on the head seems like a freakier occurrence. I'd have to have it removed. It would have the potential to bother his eyes, so I'm sure it will be done.

Narwhal looks so much like my handsome boy Noah. I read in an article that the vets think he is a mix of Dachshund, terrier and golden retriever. I think my Noah is a similar mix of Dachshund, golden retriever and ???......all I know is that they have the same doe-like eyes, and I would adopt him in a heartbeat! 38E0F686-E253-414F-842F-9FBBD34B90AC.jpeg

I just hope nobody tries to harm him. There are so many sick scumbags out there.

A rescue I used to follow on Facebook has him. And I’m sure they will be very careful who they adopt him to.

Yes, this is a true concern for the state of his health and if there are other deformities in vital organs...? There is such thing as a Chimera, where there is DNA for 2 individuals in one body.
