I’m going to add this one last thing. It’s totally unnecessary and certainly extravagant but I love mine oh so much.

Two words: litter robot.

Do I need it? No. But I will never go without one again! My cats freaking love this thing and it makes my job 10 times easier (maybe 5 times easier...the new kitty goes to the bathroom a LOT).

Thanks for all the recs! I've been having trouble engaging him in toys. He just gets bored quickly so I"ll try some of these!

Also, any link to the robot? Hehe

I'm trying to avoid laser toys because I live in an apt with hardwood floors and not that much running around space

You want it...you just don’t know it yet. :evil2:

Who knows, they may end up having a deal on Black Friday.

Two of my cats are super lazy and they are still in love with that feather toy. You should definitely give it a shot. I forgot to mention cardboard scratchers. My cats use those all the time. Throw on a little catnip and everybody’s happy.

So i got him the cardboard scratchers and put lots of catnip on it. Minimal interest. :/ Will paw at it for a few seconds and move on...

Good news, my bedroom is intact! No rage peeing!

Not every cat is crazy for catnip (and what a shame that is). I had one cat that loved licking up cat nip like it was a delicious ice cream treat. The cardboard scratchers are great because they keep their nails in check and my lazy older cat likes those more than the vertical heavy duty scratching posts. They won’t play with them like a toy but they will usually use them every day.

Yay for no rage peeing! :cool2:

I don't mind posting it! It's good for $25 off. We give it to all our adopters, so it's not a secret!

Q for those with the litter robot, what size cats is it good for? Mine are both 14 lbs, and they can be big for some cat things.

Yeah he’s waking me at 4am to play. I try to engage him in playing during the day but he doesn’t seem very tot motivated. He’ll swat at something a few times and then wander off. On the bright side he also doesn’t seem to be much of a scratcher. I ordered some laser pointers to see if he’d go for those to chase around.

idk what kind of toys you have, but cats have different toy preferences.

T loves these string toys:

Hugo loves sparkle balls:

They can both agree on this thing:

Yeowww makes the best catnip toys... I literally thought T was immune to catnip until I started buying this brand:

I just learned from coworkers that cats will sometimes pre out of spite. Hoping my bedroom isn’t now soaked from Shale being mad that I left him to go to work today. First time I’ve been away from him this long. And this is a cat that follows me to the bathroom :/

Mine follow me everywhere but don't act out when I'm gone. When T was alone, he would cry a lot while I was gone though, which was a major motivator for getting a second cat because it was really sad to watch on the nest cam. I've never had a cat pee out of spite and most cats don't.

Thanks for the recommendations! He loves these little plastic galaxy branded balls. But I’m always willing to get more toys. Hehe.

I don’t know if he cries when I’m gone. I might have to look into cat cams... although it’s rare they he has to be home alone for very long since I do shift work and often if I’m not home my partner is and vice versa.

What a sweet thing to save this lovely boy. Poor baby would not last for long in thst park. My girl like pipe cleaners, cut on half. My boy thinks they are dumb and likes when we cut holes in boxes and dangle toys from the outside. No box is safe from him.
Both the girl and boy like paper bowls thrown down the hall. Our vintage kitty will occasionally bat a rosie roadkill.

Sometimes nasty people will trap other people's cats and drive them to a remote place and dump them. Parks are a prime place. Then the cat will often wander looking for food or people or a way home, and can end up pretty far from where anyone might think to look for them. We've had a number of these incidents here where I live (in once case the neighbour eventually fessed up to the trapping and dumping, even though it is illegal to take the trapped cat anywhere other than the Humane Society, but the cat has yet to be found). And some people do take their cats camping (crazy, I know) and lose them. Some take them camping and deliberately 'lose' them - because people can be horrible sometimes.

But it sounds like you have done everything you can do to make sure that anyone looking would be able to reach you, and that Shale has a wonderful new home in case no-one does. What a lucky boy!

that's outragouse
so the poor much loved moggies goes from being a well feed pet who chaeses a few common garden birds to a hungry desperate stray who has to kill what ever he can catch to survive including native and endangered species found in parks

its also so cruel

Yeah I heard this about dogs but not about cats. Good to know! So far he doesn't seem obsessive about toys or anything aside from following me around, so fingers crossed the laser will do ok.

Today is his first time home alone for 7.5 hours, fingers crossed I don't come back to a destroyed bedroom with pee everywhere. My coworkers were saying that sometimes cat will pee out of spite haha.

its only because they want to tell us they were mad at us about something
they don't hold grudges and get over things
in our house we use ping pong balls and clothespegs for toys - plastic pegs especially skid along the floor
eventually everything ends up under the fridge !
sometimes in the middle of the night we hear Borris playing in the lounge
Tinky's favourite toy was a real rabbit's tail Gary had and he put it on a string
he would also lie on his back and open the bathroom vanity and pull out all the shampoo bottles and stuff - that's a racket that will wake the dead - but we once had a mouse in there and i think he remembered
you will have so much discovering what Shale likes to play with
Tinky liked knocking things off Gary's side of the dutchess - it was so deliberate it was funny

Cats are also funny in that there are toys they will play with ONLY IF I'm not in the room. T wouldn't be caught dead playing with a ball where a human can see him but he likes playing with the rattley balls when no one is around. Hugo loves boxes when people aren't around but is disinterested in them if there's someone he can make play fetch.

Also is he white and orange or white and brown? Tan?

Are his eyes brown or yellow? Hmmm

He's definitely orange, and I'd describe his eyes as golden or amber.

I have a few cat trees and cat scratchers. Also I bought cat nip spray. I spray it on the scratchers and my cats seem to love it.
I still have a few scratches here and there on my furniture. Oh well! It’s just furniture. Lol!

On the topic of cats holding grudges, mine never did but I think that’s only for family. My husband and I were vacationing in a small town where strays hung out in the local restaurant. One cat was lounging under a dining table when a woman accidentally kicked it. A moment later, the cat extracted revenge by giving the woman a good nip on the heel. My husband and I couldn’t stop laughing!

The cats we have rescued from outside have all enjoyed playing with common household items, boxes, paper bags and an empty toilet paper roll. Our youngest cat will bite and tear the toilet paper roll to shreds.

Also not sure if anyone else has mentioned but you can get a tall scratching post with some perches and set it next to a window so he can look outside, that is very entertaining!

It takes time to figure out what a kitty likes to play with. For example, my 4 cats:
1) tiny mouse toys
2) socks
3) hair bands
4) pom poms and softball size balls (polydactyl with huge paws)

And cat beds, ermagherd
One likes cat beds, one likes what was formerly mama"s fleece robe, one likes boxes and paper bags, etc. A bunch of weirdos lololol.

I'm very anal about protecting the wood floors in both my homes, so I put down area rugs on top of felt rug pads. I also make sure to have small rugs on the landings of stairs. My friend showed me firsthand the types of circular scuffs cats make when they sprint down stairs and spin out on the landing. Lolllol. The rugs help dampen the sound of scampering kitties, aside from protecting the floors. And I'll be damned if kitties skid out and end up with kitty concussions. Lololol.

He’s so needy for belly rubs

Awww <3 Shale and Oliver might be related. What a big mushy love Shale is.
(Oliver's hair is stained yellow from Lime Sulfur dips. That hair is normally much whiter).

Tinky would have loved the wood floor in this house, he used to do very impressive hand break slides on our kitchen vinyl

Cuteness overload!!! :kiss2: Just when I’m convinced he can’t be any cuter, you post a pic like this.

As for coloring, I had a kitty who looked very similar. White and orange. My husband used to call ours a toasted marshmallow.

Aww I love toasted marshmallow @elle_71125
Haha we call Oliver the "hot tamale" and "chili pepper" and "creamsicle" lol. We love our nicknames.

Francesca's nickname was the longest. HRH, Queen of all that has ever lived, ever lives and will ever live, we bow to your knees and there's actually more but that will suffice. 8)

Haha my floors are already a mess, a few more scratches won’t make much difference at this point...
Same with the furniture. I’m not at all a nester or have any interest in home decor and as a result most of my furniture is stuff I bought on sale a decade ago...

The tall scratching post I ordered should be coming today! Will probably set it up in the living room by the window.

Thinking about a cat tree for my bedroom for when he’s up at 4am and wants to perch and watch me sleep like a weirdo. Right now he used a crate.

I have a few different types of cat scratchers -- horizontal, vertical, sisal, cardboard. The one that is liked by all my cats is this. Available from Chewy and Amazon for $49.95. It lasts a long time -- Pet Fusion Ultimate Cat Scratcher Lounge.

@elle_71125 and @PintoBean
I've been reading reviews since I may get one for myself as a christmas gift too. I was wonder how the odor control is since I have the litter box in my bathroom since I live in an apartment (so no basement). This may not fit in my bathroom in which case it'd most likely go in my bedroom so if it's sort of smelly I might stick with my current situation (at least until I acquire a basement).
